Someone said this to me, yall.
"Y’all open at 11? Must be nice to have a late start.”😂
Yep.
The MARKET opens at 11.
Our day does not.
My face said it all. 🫣
The truth is yall....
Our alarm goes off at 4:00 AM.
By 4:30, we're already herding cows in for milking.
Then we milk for roughly TWO HOURS.
And while most of the world is still sleeping, we're already washing and sanitizing jars, filling milk, making chocolate milk, loading coolers, getting ice, collecting eggs, cartoning eggs, labeling eggs…and feeding every animal on this farm.
Oh, and feeding the children, too. 😂
Then throw laundry into the mix.
Appointments.
Phone calls.
Unexpected farm emergencies.
A kid who needs something RIGHT NOW.
A cow who decides she isn't going where she's supposed to go.
A gate that somehow got left open.
A chicken doing chicken things.
Because that's farm life.
Then we load everything up, haul it to the market, unload it, and restock the shelves.
THEN the doors open.
And that's just the morning.
Here's what people sometimes don't understand about buying directly from a farm...
You're not just buying a carton of eggs.
You're buying the hours nobody sees.
You're buying the 4 AM alarm.
You're buying the muddy boots.
You're buying the sore back.
You're buying the jars that have to be washed and sanitized again.
You're buying the mornings when the cows don't cooperate.
You're buying the days when something breaks and there is no “I'll deal with it Monday.”
You're buying food that didn't magically appear on a grocery store shelf.
And before somebody says, “Well, that's what you signed up for…”
You're absolutely right.
We did.
We CHOSE this.
We chose the cows.
We chose the chickens.
We chose the pigs.
We chose the early mornings.
We chose the hard work.
We chose to raise our kids in the middle of it.
And we'd choose it again.
Because here's the secret about farm life...
Every day might start the same… but you better be ready for ANYTHING.
A boring day on the farm?
That's a GREAT day. 😂
A boring day means everybody is healthy.
The cows cooperated.
The equipment worked.
Nobody got hurt.
The fence stayed up.
The milk flowed.
The eggs got collected.
The kids were fed.
And nothing went wrong.
So yes…
The market opens at 11.
But by the time you walk through those doors, we've already lived a whole day's worth of life.
And tomorrow?
We'll do it all over again.
4 AM comes awful early, our days rarely end before 11pm and sometimes its even later when you're the farmer. But somebody has to put the food on the shelf. 🐄🥚🥛it doesnt just magically appear and a truck surely isnt pulling up to restock us overnight.
So, we will see yall at the market. We are open 11 to 6!
