Since we moved in, we have had a hawk couple come back each year to nest and hatch their eggs. Their distinct calls let us know they are around, and they keenly “watch over” our chickens. (Sherry will stand guard by the coop when the hawks are near, haha! We haven’t lost a chicken to a hawk yet though!)

This is the first year where we have been able to see the whole family! Beautiful birds; we believe to be Cooper’s Hawks. We counted 5 total this morning. What’s really cool is to see them close up like this, they are smaller in size compared to the Red-Tailed Hawk we always see flying around, but these are no small bird themselves (which puts the Red-tail hawk size into perspective).
