Horses and mules pulling the plows. In 1942 the first tractor was bought. Our farm has been in constant production of grain and fiber. When most of the adult men had to go fight in World Warâ…ˇ, the farming was then done by the Saffle family young boys, their mothers, uncle and also Mr. Clifton Saffle who was partially blind. Crops that have been grown through the years are cotton, corn, wheat, vege
tables, fruit and hay. A small dairy of about 10 cows produced milk and was sold in Waco. Also a large flock of laying hens produced eggs and was sold in Waco. Saffle began Saffle Plant Nursery. Many different varieties of plants, vegetables, shrubs, and trees were grown and sold. In 1995 his nephew Charles Saffle and wife Joyce, continued growing and selling quality plants from what is now known as Saffle Plant Farm. We also sell our vegetables and plants at the farmers market in Waco Texas. Fifty acres of coastal hay is grown and sold in square bales. Our farmhand helpers still consist of The Saffle family with the 6th generation learning the way of farming.
