Behind every meal served is a story of love, sacrifice, and perseverance. Mario carries the memory of his beloved grandchildren and son-in-law with him every single day. Their love lives on in his heart and is woven into everything he does. Even through unimaginable loss, he has continued with strength, faith, and a determination to build something meaningful in their honor.
This business is more than a dream come true—it is a reflection of who Mario is: hardworking, humble, resilient, and full of love. Most of you may have heard about the tragedy that impacted Mario’s family recently. For those who may not know, his son-in-law and two grandchildren tragically lost their lives in a car accident. Randy, his son-in-law, was not only an employee here at Up In Smoke BBQ—he was like a son to Mario. His grandchildren were just 4 and 12 years old, taken far too soon.
Mario’s daughter—the wife and mother to Randy, Connor, and Eden—is facing the unimaginable. In the midst of this heartbreak, Mario has stepped in to help care for his daughter and his two granddaughters who are still here with us. He is doing everything he can to be present for his family, while also trying to keep the business going.
He is one man carrying a heavy load, all while dealing with his own health challenges. His grief is deep, even if it’s not always visible.
As a family-owned business, this loss has affected all of us. We are more than just a business—we are human.
Kindness costs nothing. You never truly know what someone is going through behind the scenes.
We want to thank everyone who continues to support us, recommend us, and show patience and understanding. When you choose to support our business, you are also supporting a genuinely kind and selfless man who has always given so much to his family and his community without ever expecting anything in return.
We are not asking for handouts—Mario would never accept them. We simply want to express our gratitude to those who stand by us during this difficult time. Your support means more than words can say. God always provides.

Today has been a good/busy day for us, and first and foremost, we want to say thank you to everyone who continues to support us. We are incredibly grateful to be busy and blessed by our community.

We do want to gently remind everyone that we recently experienced phone issues and have always operated with only one phone line. Because of this, and especially during peak hours, things can move fast. We kindly ask customers to please check your orders before leaving. While we do our absolute best, we are human and mistakes can happen—especially on days like today when we were short staffed and extremely busy. Please know that when a mistake happens, it truly hurts us. We are absolutely gutted when we fall short, but we always want the opportunity to correct it as soon as possible to make things right and ensure customer satisfaction.

Thank you to those who are understanding and to everyone who has supported us from the very beginning. If you truly know the owner, you know how deeply he cares—not just about this business, but about people. He gives back to the community often and quietly, never for recognition, but simply out of the goodness of his heart.

We also want to be transparent about our pricing. We try our hardest to keep prices fair, and while we hated having to increase them over the years, it was necessary so we can continue to support our families. Please remember that menu prices do not include tax or credit card processing fees. We were made aware of an incident today and want to clarify:
• A brisket plate with 3 sides and a drink is $14, and with tax and card fees it will total $14+
• If you swap brisket for another meat option, like ribs, the price remains the same an it’ll still be one meat. If you’d like more we would then charge for a 2 meat- 3 meat plate depending on your needs.

If you ever have concerns, questions, or feedback, please message us or come down and speak with the owner personally. We only want to improve, and the only way to get better is by knowing where we can do better.
To those who continue to show grace and understanding, we are beyond thankful.

We will be open until 8PM today, and we still have our continued specials available per customer request. Let us take care of you and your dinner needs tonight.
