Spring has officially arrived at Featherbed Farms… which means I’ve got my ducks in a row… Well… mostly.

For about 30 seconds they were perfectly lined up like a well-organized farm operation. Then someone spotted a bug, someone else forgot where they were going, and the whole system fell apart. But hey, we had a moment of success and we’re counting it. 😂

Ringo and I took a little stroll through our property now that the snow has finally melted.

The woods still feel a little sleepy, but you can tell spring is getting ready… little streams running, and the moss is brightening.

What are the first signs of spring you’re starting to notice where you are? 🌱

Do your chickens free range in the woods too, or do they prefer yard?

Today’s egg collection from Featherbed Farms 🫶🏻

A beautiful little mix from our Olive Eggers and Cochins. I never get tired of seeing all the different shades show up in the nesting boxes - soft greens, warm browns, and blush pinks.

The current set up for this years first call ducklings at Featherbed Farms. Trying a new method to keep it dry, ventilated, and warm. Workings great so far.

🌸 Iris’s at Featherbed Farms 🌸

Irises have always held a special place in my heart. They’ve been my favorite flower since I was a child, and part of that love comes from family history. My grandmother used to tell me how much her father adored them, and somehow that appreciation has been passed down through the generations.

Here at Featherbed Farms, growing irises feels like carrying on a small family tradition. Each spring and early summer they reward us with the most incredible colors, patterns, and ruffled petals. From soft pastels to deep velvety purples and bright sunny yellows, every variety has its own personality.

This spring I’m sharing some different varieties we grow here on the farm. Watching them come back stronger each season never gets old. I can’t wait to see what they produce this year!

If you’re a fellow iris lover, I’d love to know, what’s your favorite color or variety so far?
