Rolling J Farm is a 3rd generation small farm, established in 1944, owned and operated by Lynn, Eddie, Alan and Betsy Jostock, located in Southeastern Minnesota. After being a dairy and hog operation, with some beef cattle for over 40 years, in 2015, Rolling J Farm transitioned to a quickly growing beef herd. Our livestock consists of beef cattle, hogs, meat goats, and laying hens. We have been di
rect marketing our livestock product for over 38 years and also sell in local sales barns, and direct to meat distributors. Cattle
Our 150+ cattle herd consist of Red Angus, Black Angus, Holstein, and Cross-Bred. They are raised on a grain and forage-based diet and no growth hormones. We breed and birth our cattle, as well as purchase calves to raise. They are well loved “coos” as Betsy can’t help but spend half of her time petting and talking to them. Hogs
Our 100+ hogs are cross bred, Berkshire, Duroc, and Chester White. They are raised to a California standard to be sold to Niman Ranch. Niman Ranch focuses on livestock that is treated humanely and to the highest welfare standards. This means that our hogs are raised certified humane, no cages, no crates, no tail docking, or teeth clipping. Other
We also have a small herd of meat goats and laying hens. We do sell our eggs as well, but sometimes they are free loaders and don’t give us any eggs. Fields
We grow crops, mainly to feed our livestock. We have turned our focus to land conservation practices, such as no-till and minimum till and the use of cover crops. We grow corn, soybeans, alfalfa mix hay, barley, and oats. Farmers
We are all Beef Quality Assurance, Pork Quality Assurance, and Trucking Quality Assurance Certified. We work hard, and love what we do! Eddie and Lynn
Eddie has been a big presence in the agriculture industry. He has been a voice for farmers and very involved in the politics of agriculture. He is the President of the Wabasha County Farmers Union, President of the board of advisors for the Farm Business Management program at Riverland Community College, as well as holding a degree for farm business management, on the board for the Wabasha County Pork Producers, a member of the Zumbro Township Board of Supervisors, and a member of the Wabasha County Cattlemen’s Association. Lynn is the rock of the farm. She started early by helping in the fields and around the farm, all while taking time to raise 4 children, Katie, Samantha, Alan, and Becky. All of the children were very involved in making Rolling J Farm what it is today. Katie and her significant other Jeff continue to stay very active in the AG community managing several swine finishing barns. Samantha and husband Josh, now has a small hobby farm and she contributes to the success of the farm, along with some help from her children. Becky and her husband Travis are involved in his family's state of the art dairy operation and she continues to come back to the Rolling J to help whenever she is needed. Alan and Betsy
Alan and Betsy are members of the MN Farmers Union, Land Stewardship Program, Wabasha County Cattlemen’s Association, Wabasha County Pork Producers (Betsy-Vice President) and both members of the City Council in Hammond, MN. Alan is also holds a class D water license and is water superintendent for the city, is on the board of advisors for the Farm Business Management program at Riverland Community College, and is working towards his farm business management degree. Alan has been farming since he could walk, alongside his father Eddie, and was joined by his wife Betsy to jump in on the farm fun. Betsy comes from a long line of farmers, but never really got to partake in the farming until now. Alan’s daughters, Gracelyn and Alexa, are a huge help around the farm as well. Gracelyn’s favorite thing to do at the farm is to spend time with the animals, pigs the most. Alexa’s favorite thing to do at the farm is to make sure all of the barn kitties are happy and is her dad’s little shadow. They also enjoy participating in 4H, and love to show pigs, rabbits, and cattle at the Wabasha County Fair.
