Join Walnut Plain Gardens at the 8th Annual Greyhound Pets of America, MA Craft Fair on Sunday, June 7th from 10am–3pm at Middleboro Town Hall!

This is one of our favorite events of the year because it supports a cause that is very close to our hearts. We've shared our lives with five greyhounds over the years and absolutely adore this gentle, loving breed. Our current greyhound, Farloe, is a 6-year-old retired racer from Ireland and the biggest love bug you'll ever meet.

Stop by and support a wonderful lineup of local vendors while helping Greyhound Pets of America continue their important adoption work. We'll be bringing a beautiful selection of perennials, houseplants, and gardener gifts—perfect for treating yourself or finding something special for the plant lover in your life.

We hope to see you there! 🌿

Looking for a plant that’s both beautiful and steeped in centuries of herbal folklore? Meet Valerian! 🌿

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a tall, graceful perennial herb known for its clusters of soft blush-white flowers, ferny green foliage, and deeply aromatic roots. Historically, valerian has been used since ancient Greek and Roman times as a calming herb, often associated with relaxation, sleep support, and easing nervous tension. In medieval gardens, it was grown as both a medicinal and ornamental plant — and even used in perfumes and healing tonics.

In the garden, valerian adds a lovely cottage garden feel with airy flower clusters that sway above surrounding plants. Pollinators absolutely adore it! 🐝🦋

🌱 Growing Info:
☀️ Prefers full sun to part shade
🌿 Likes average to moist, well-draining soil
📏 Grows approximately 3–5 feet tall
🌸 Blooms in early to midsummer with fragrant pale pink to white flowers
❄️ Hardy perennial that returns year after year

Valerian’s roots are the part most commonly used in herbal preparations, traditionally dried for teas, tinctures, and sleep-support blends. (As always, please research thoroughly and consult a healthcare professional before using herbs medicinally.)

A beautiful herb with a rich history, pollinator value, and old-world charm — valerian is a wonderful addition to herb gardens, cottage gardens, and healing spaces alike. We are fully stocked at Walnut Plain Gardens along with dozens of other herbs. Stop by soon for the best selection!

Foxglove season is here at Walnut Plain Gardens! 🌿✨

We currently have THREE beautiful foxglove varieties available in quart-sized pots for $8 each, all budded up and ready to bloom!

🌼 Yellow Foxglove
Soft buttery yellow blooms with an elegant cottage garden feel. Reaches approximately 3–4 feet tall.

🎨 Dalmatian Mix Foxglove
A colorful mix of pink, purple, cream, and white blooms with signature speckled throats. One of the earliest blooming foxgloves, growing about 2–3 feet tall.

🌸 Foxy Dwarf Mix Foxglove
A more compact variety perfect for smaller garden spaces and containers, featuring pastel shades of pink, cream, yellow, and lavender. Grows approximately 2–2.5 feet tall.

Foxgloves add beautiful vertical interest, a whimsical cottage garden charm, and are beloved by pollinators — especially bumblebees! They make a stunning backdrop in flower beds and pair beautifully with roses, salvias, peonies, and other perennials.

☀️ Light Needs: Full sun to part shade
🌱 Soil Needs: Rich, well-draining soil with consistent moisture

Foxgloves are typically biennials or short-lived perennials, often reseeding themselves naturally for years of garden beauty.

⚠️ Please Note: All parts of foxglove plants are toxic if ingested by people or pets. Handle with care and plant thoughtfully around children and animals.

Stop by and see these beauties while they last!
