Have you noticed the beautiful white daisies blooming everywhere right now? 🌼 Those are Montauk daisies, and October is their time to shine!

These beauties are late-season bloomers, bringing a fresh pop of white to the garden just as so many other flowers are winding down. And the bees LOVE them! 🐝 They’re a wonderful late-season food source for our pollinators when there aren’t as many flowers left to choose from.

🌿 One thing to know before you plant one: they get BIG! Montauk daisies can grow 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, forming a full, bushy mound covered in blooms. Give them some room to spread, and they’ll reward you year after year!

We have quart pots available at the plant stand if you’d like to try one in your own garden.

🍂 One more week at the stand! We’ll be closing for the fall season next Friday, October 16th, so now’s your chance to snag a Montauk daisy before we close up shop.

Come spend a fall afternoon on the farm with us!

Walnut Plain Gardens will be at the Women’s Vendor Collaborative as part of Fall on the Farm at The Farm at Raven Brook in Halifax on Sunday, October 11.

There will be 30+ women-owned businesses, live music, a food truck, b**r, and plenty of local shopping and browsing.

Come support the lovely ladies behind these small businesses, discover some new favorites, grab something good to eat and drink, and enjoy a little fall farm time.

🌻 DAY THREE at the South Coast Harvest Festival!

We’re back at the Westport Fairgrounds today with a whole booth full of garden goodies, houseplants, locally grown dried flowers, scented brooms, garden decor, plant gifts, and plenty of things you probably didn’t know you needed until you saw them. 😉

The plant bar is stocked, the dried flowers are looking very fall-y, and there are still lots of goodies to wander through.

Come say hi, take a stroll around the festival, grab some food, and support a whole bunch of local small businesses while you’re here. Open 10am-6pm!

Come take a little tour of my booth at the South Coast Harvest Festival! 🌿🍂

I brought a little bit of everything with me this weekend… garden decor, scented brooms, locally grown dried flowers, houseplants, garden gifts, and plenty of other fun little things you probably don’t need but might suddenly decide you absolutely need. 😂

And yes, the plant bar is here! 🪴 Build your own little planty creation and take home something you made yourself.

I’m set up at the Westport Fairgrounds for opening night TONIGHT, Friday 3–8, and I’ll be here all day Saturday & Sunday.

If you’re in the area, come wander through the festival, say hi, and come see what I’ve got growing on over here. 🌱

With all this rain headed our way, here’s your friendly reminder if you’ve recently picked up a mum!

If your mums are currently in bloom and living in pots or containers, protect them from the rain if you can. Bring them inside, tuck them under a covered porch or deck, or find them a nice sheltered spot.

Once those pretty petals get soaked, they can become waterlogged and start to brown and break down pretty quickly. A little protection now means you’ll get to enjoy those blooms a whole lot longer. 🌼

So before the rain rolls in… go tuck your mums in! 😂🌧️ And if you have a mum-loving friend, send this their way!

Happy Autumn Equinox from Walnut Plain Gardens 🍂

Fall has always felt like a really special transition to me. Not the beginning of darkness, but simply a time when there is a little less light, cooler air, and a shift in what the garden needs from us.

Summer is all about growing, blooming, and enjoying everything we’ve planted. Now we’re harvesting, saving seeds, planting garlic and shallots, and getting things ready for the colder months.

But there is still so much to enjoy.

I love making little fall displays, watching the late flowers bloom, and seeing the birds feast on the coneflowers and sunflower heads. The squirrels are busy collecting nuts, the turkeys are grazing, and everything seems to be quietly preparing for what’s ahead.

It’s a good reminder that the garden isn’t really ending. It’s just changing.

So here’s to enjoying these last beautiful weeks, gathering what we can, planting a few things for the future, and slowing down enough to notice what’s happening around us.

The South Coast Harvest Festival is now happening October 2–4, and Walnut Plain Gardens will be there all weekend!

Due to the impending nor’easter and expected weather conditions, the South Coast Harvest Festival has been postponed to October 2–4, 2026. The safety of our guests, vendors, performers, volunteers, and crew comes first. ❤️

We’re disappointed that the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show cannot join us this year, but we’re excited to welcome them back for our 2027 festival! 🪓🌲

We’re thrilled that the Chrissy Joy Show and many other performers can still join us October 2–4. Enjoy:
