Scientists at Washington State University have issued a dire warning: honey bee colonies across the U.S. could face up to 70% losses in 2025—the highest on record. These pollinators are essential for crops like apples, almonds, strawberries, coffee, and vanilla—over a third of our global food supply depends on them. According to entomologist Priya Chakrabarti Basu and pollinator ecologist Brandon Hopkins, a deadly mix of parasites, viruses, pesticides, and poor nutrition is pushing colonies to collapse.
