Today we honor the memory of Stephen Ashley, whose generosity and dedication to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra left a lasting impact on our organization and community.

Stephen's contributions to the RPO were immeasurable. He served as a member of the Board of Directors, Vice Chair of the Board, and later as a member of the Honorary Board. Throughout his years of service he built strong relationships in the community, advocated for the RPO with donors and local leaders, and provided valuable guidance to the organization.

A trusted mentor to members of the RPO leadership team, Steve shared a deep understanding of the Rochester community and offered wise counsel as we navigated both opportunities and challenges.

Steve and his late, beloved wife, Janice, were devoted subscribers who rarely missed a performance. They were always eager to share thoughtful feedback on the concerts they attended and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the RPO through their generous support of Voices of Today, our commissioning, recording, and storytelling initiative.

We will miss Steve and Janice dearly, and we are profoundly grateful for the legacy they leave behind.

A memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be held Today, August 8, 2026, from 1:30–2:30pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
