Good dreary morning from Sweet South. Sometimes we are presented with opportunities. Let me talk to you about pears (as opposed to peers-that’s another story!) we have a pear tree down near the chicken coops. It has been lackluster on fruit production. This year however, it bore so many fruit that the branches are mangled and broken. I’ve been feeding these pears to the chickens and the rams. Yesterday I thought I need to do something with this bounty. So I picked more than a peck, and peeled and canned. Sadly I only had enough sugar for a few bottles. And this being a first time run, I wanted to do a trial. I’m happy to report that they look gorgeous hopefully they taste great too.
So today I hope you find a bounty and just like that, turn it into something amazing. And if all else fails feel free to feed your community.

Good rainy day from Sweet South. It’s been a while, but today I want to talk spouses. I got home from grocery shopping and picking up Henry, and Ed may or may not have fussed because I didn’t go out and see what he had accomplished on the tractor. 2 rams had escaped his “ramshackle” fence, and he was not happy. So we rode out to try recapture the rams after taking a detour to see the work that was done.
All this made me chuckle, I’m in the process of doing laundry I’m going to call him in, and give him a tour of my work station. This is where I get the dirty laundry, this is the washing machine, and this is the dryer. After clothes are washed and dried you can wear them again. Can I get a trophy?
So today my wish for you is a clean home, a warm dinner and someone who appreciates you. And if all else fails, give tours. Have a wonderful day.

Good Morning from Sweet South, it’s been a while, but I’ve been living my lucky, lucky life.
So, if you survive cancer and a heart attack-you’re lucky enough!
If you spend 6 wonderful weeks traveling, spending time in new places, welcomed by family and friends, and sip wine at sunset with new friends, you’re lucky enough.
If you get to see two young people so well suited to each other, commit to a joined life, you’re lucky enough.
If you travel to New York and meet the friendliest, kindest people and with family members you rarely see, you’re lucky enough.
If you return to your home and see that your flowers are growing and the grass needs cutting, you’re lucky enough
When you see your grandkids graduate elementary school, you’re lucky enough.
When you get your dog and he is beyond excited to see you, and the chickens form a welcoming parade you’re lucky enough.
If you sleep through a storm and wake to see pictures, you’re lucky enough
If you woke this beautiful morning and could see the bright sunshine, hear the birds sing, feel the cool air on your skin, you are lucky enough.
So today, I challenge you to see how lucky you are. Find all that you’ve faced, and take full measure of the times you’ve been lucky enough!
Have a lucky enough kind of day!
PS feel free to add your own lucky enough ideas.

Good morning from Sweet South. Big day in our hood. Ed is finally, with much trepidation hanging up the gloves!! I always tell
Ed I fell in love with his hands first. The hands of a hard worker, the hands that have fixed, created and provided so much for our family. Arriving in this country 31 years ago, at the age of 37, we rebuilt our lives mostly through the sheer will, work ethic and diligence of Ed. He worked incredibly long hours, flew all over this country, missed so many of the kids meets and events, all to provide such an incredible life for us. After 45 years of hard work, he’s not sure about this next adventure, I am so happy I was there the first day he entered the work force and today the last day. I am beyond excited for the adventures our future holds. I know his favorite joke is that he’s worried about his new boss, and this boss is dreaming up a storm.
So today, love the one you’re with and enjoy the tempests and the joy and the certain knowledge that a productive life never ends.
Have a wonderful day.
PS he’s only going in at 9:30 today. Real rebel. Eddie Prinsloo

Good beautiful sunny morning from Sweet South. A great day to be alive! So much has happened in the last week, it’s hard to comprehend.
So one short week ago, I was doing yoga as usual when I started to feel dizzy. I put it down to downward dog 🐕🦮🐩 but I couldn’t even complete my practice. My chest was tight and I felt nauseous as heck. I thought let me check my blood pressure! Fortunately Ed has a machine the reading said critical!!! Winner 🏆. So then I asked Dr. Google what I could do to lower blood pressure. It said drink water. So I chugged water. Tested blood pressure! Even higher!! Then it said take a walk- so I walked about a quarter mile. Well I just got more nauseous and my BP didn’t drop! At all. I told Ed we have to go to emergency, but first I have to shower. So we drive down Cherry Road. It’s an early day for school so we get stuck in traffic. An hour later we arrive at Pineville, Ed drops me off. Within a couple of hours I’m in surgery to have stents added. Myocardial infarction. Who knew you could have a heart attack without a single chest pain?
Don’t worry too much about me I am well recovered and very grateful that I get to share this PSA: women do not experience heart attacks like men. It is chest pressure, nausea and dizziness. Some have heartburn. Listen to your bodies.
I am so grateful for Joanne who spent the entire weekend by my side, and bought our groceries, for Tracy who meal prepped. And for Ed. Literally my ride or die.
So, this weekend, live. Turn off the phones, hang out with the family. Life is sweet and you owe yourself this one incredible experience.
Have a fabulous day
Bruised and battered but still at bat.

Good morning from Sweet South. How chilly it’s been. I somehow forgot to post the written part of this segment !! Well yesterday we moved the last of our lambs to our holding pen ready for the next buyer. So this little walk with our wooly pasture ornaments was bittersweet indeed. These precious animals have driven us out of our comfort zones in the coldest, wettest, hottest weather, we have played tag and chased them on more than one occasion. We have learned to inject, to dose, to hand raise. They have kept us moving and alive, born and raised right here. It is going to be so sad to say goodbye to the last of our flock and see the empty pastures.
The end of an era! We will certainly restock our fields one day and will rebuild our pastures in the meanwhile. But for now these two shepherds are shepherding themselves toward the sun.
So today if you are faced with choices, choose joy and accept the consequences, they may not be so pretty. Because if you stagnate, the universe has a way of choosing for you. And if all else fails, tempt some sheep with a bucket of goodies!!
Have a great day.

Good chilly chilly morning from Sweet South. I’ve had so much time to reflect lately. We’re getting ready to travel so we’ve rehomed our breeding flock of sheep it was a sad day saying goodbye to our beautiful ewes, the productive women of our flock. How we will miss Black Nose, Jezebel, Houdina and #5. These beautiful , independent, women produced around 50 lambs between them, in the years we (and Shaun and Sam) have loved on them. But as you know with Ed’s retirement we will be chasing the sun.
So let’s talk women’s rights, a friend of mine monitored during the election, countless times she witnessed a woman giving her ballot to her husband, effectively disenfranchising herself, and giving her husband two votes. When questioning this my friend was told, that it was not a questionable practice. But I’m questioning it. Women have fought so long for their rights, I wonder how anyone would so willingly give away the rights that were only won after a century of fighting. Women are not like our ewes, producers of offspring, subservient and docile. I have no problem who you vote for, just make your vote count.
This morning, I woke to a beautiful moon peering through the trees and it made me think that it shines on us equally, without prejudice.
So my wish for you today is a life where you can just be the human you want to be. Equal under the moon.
Have a great day.

Well good crispy cold morning, from a frosty Sweet South. What a beautiful, busy morning. This morning we woke to a real catastrophe. Our young ewes and our breeding ewes escaped. Unfortunately Shawn the ram is still in with the older ladies. Ed had to rugby tackle Shawn and I had to entice the ladies with some of their favorite treats. All this to say that once again we have to separate the ewes. Someone may get a bonus lamb.
On another note entirely I love doing jigsaw puzzles. So I started building this puzzle on a very rainy day, Ed couldn’t resist and started to insert pieces all over the place. Well, come to piece 999 and we can’t find the 1,000th piece. So needless to say we have spent almost as much time searching for that missing piece as building the whole darn puzzle. It struck me as such an analogy of our own lives, how much time and effort we waste trying for perfection, that one missing thing, the one thing that will make us whole. While a whole world passes us by.
So today my wish for you is the courage to give up on that one missing piece. And if all else fails get down on your knees and contemplate your loss.
Have a great day. Stay warm.

Good morning from Sweet South, what a glorious bonus summer we’ve been enjoying. Today is a long one so bare with me.
Last weekend we decided to cut the fields of our neighbors property. Ed cut with the tractor and I rode the mower. Well this huge open field is the hunting ground for some amazing hawks. As we mowed, they swooped within feet of us to catch mice, it was spectacular these killing fields. It made me more cautious and concerned about the safety of all my chickens. It made me think of the new school in Fort Mill, ironically named Flint Hill. I worried about any child or teacher that will be exposed to volatile chemicals. Silfab is literally neighboring these schools. So some, like my grandson will spend his entire k-8 school career in the zone. Who, in good conscience, can send anyone into this zone? What teacher is willing to work in that space? The three toxic chemicals are hydrogen fluoride, hydrochloric acid and toluene they are not magically piped in. They are trucked in through the streets of Fort Mill. York county is responsible for this, Fort Mill Schools is responsible for flip flopping neighborhoods essentially playing favorites. How do you announce a rezoning then change some? If you think that this will only affect these two schools. Think again. I would not willingly send my chicken to free range with a hawk.
So today step up, speak out for all the residents in Fort Mill, not just for your precious offspring. All kids deserve schooling in a safe environment as do their precious teachers.
I know, Sweet South is all supposed to be feel good, but you know I speak for the kids whether you want to hear it or not. It’s my superpower.

Well
Good blustery day from Sweet South. The wind is gusting across the fields heralding the inevitable approach of winter. The nip in the air is palpable and the sheep are beginning to don their winter coats.
The chickens are reluctant purveyors of butt nuggets, but have no qualms eating themselves out of house and home in their free time. Shawn is still sowing his wild oats and enjoying his bachelor days.
As for me? Well most of you know I love to hang my laundry outdoors and capture the fresh air and cleansing rays of sun. Well Monday was no exception, I woke early (for yoga) last one outdoors for a while I’m thinking, and then got to washing linens and hanging them out and watched as everything danced with abandon in the gusts of wind. Taking it all down when it was dry thirty minutes later was another adventure if I was lighter I probably could have parasailed! But it got me thinking. This pleasure comes with much more effort than just popping it into the dryer and then I wouldn’t even need to iron. But when I get myself into that bed at night it’s a luxury and it reminds me of all the good that has passed and the joy of laundry sunshine. It made me think how easily we resort to the simple at the expense of joy.
So today bake that bread, make that soup, call that sister, friend or neighbor. Wrestle that laundry off the wash line, experience that joy.
And, if all else fails? Order in dinner, look through old albums, marvel at the road you have traveled, and that first time you felt fat! Oy vey!

Good morning from Sweet South,
What a glorious day, the sun is shining warmly at our backs and nary a breeze blows through the trees. The sky has been fiery at night, reminding me of the devastation wrought in the mountains. But it also made me think of the glory of donations flooding in to help survivors. The York County Beekeepers got together to donate honey and goods to areas that were not quite as well served. I’m so proud to see our honey go to sweeten the lives of those facing such devastating loss.
So today, whatever you’re doing, look up into the sky and be thankful, thankful for even the smallest blessing. Cause heaven knows there’s much to be grateful for. And, if all else fails, just breathe and donate. That will surely make you feel better.

Good morning from Sweet South. I’m sitting out in the patio contemplating the arrival of some bad weather. It made me think that the storm’s wrath falls evenly on the rich or the poor, it does not distinguish left nor right. Clearly, some people will feel the impact much more than others. But one thing I know about this amazing country, people will offer up their time, their money, and their talents to help those affected by the storm. Regardless of political affiliation. When I read some of the political vitriol I wonder where this grace is? People post tropes and lies, without fact checking, on both sides.
So today, if you feel the need to support your candidate, try make it positive, focus on their strengths, check the facts. And if all else fails, sit tight and hold onto your hat, and make sure that you stay weather ready, cause this storm too shall pass.
Have a safe day.
