Update time again!

We've had a LOT of problems with Marvin. After he was gelded at three and a half months old he went back a week or so later and had to have surgery for an abnormal growth on the p***s that had blocked the flow of urine. Over the month or two he's had three more surgeries. If he needs another we are looking at roughly $500.

We did find out that not only was the chicken food he kept getting into bad for him, but goat food and sweet feed are both dangerous to wethers that are gelded young! Who knew?! So we changed his diet, added 2 tablespoons of Fruit Fresh orally daily and so far no more problems. We are crossing our fingers because I just don't know if we can come up with his surgery money. Between him, Oreo the bunny having a respiratory infection and then later on getting ear mites, one of the dogs having major skin issues and another having problems with his nails, we spent about a grand on vet bills this month.

In the meantime we brought home some Light Brahma chicks. Crow, the baby chick that hatched last year went broody so we let her sit on some eggs and hatched one of those that joined the others in the brooder.

We also decided today we need to find a new home for either Phil or new home(s) for momma and Lil. After what we went through with Marvin we're terrified to risk gelding Phil and goats can start to breed at four to five months old. We don't want to risk more babies. So we are currently looking for homes.

I think that's about all the updates! Hope everyone has been doing great. Enjoy your long weekend, gifted to us by the brave men and women of the military who sacrificed their lives.

Busy, busy, busy here!!! We have the contractor coming this week to start the last of the renovation in the house, the master suite. I've got to go this morning to pick up supplies and some gardening stuff, then drop that and pick up hubby to take him to a Dr appt, then my besties are coming by for some VERY much needed girl time!!

Next week Ms Aphrodite goes to the vet for bumblefoot and the end of May little Mr Phil goes for his gelding. Can't wait to get that little turd taken care of and remove some of those boy hormones! Male goats are not pleasant! LOL

Gidget has settled in very well. She had been kept indoors until recently and because of it hadn't grown a good thick winter coat. This morning she kept crying outside so we brought her in the mud room to warm up. She wanted out later with the boys and did fine until tonight. When I went to lock them in the room she wanted none of it, so I let her back in the mud room. She was there a few hours and started crying so I thought maybe she wanted to be with the others. Nope. She went out and went potty and came back in. So I guess now, at least until it warms up, we have a house goat.

New arrival today. Gidget is a pygmy mix. We were told two and a half years but farrier says more like five or six. She also appears to be pregnant. Hooves were very over grown and two have rot, so the farrier was called the second we got home. Very sweet girl and she put her brothers in their place immediately.

Charlie has a couple best friends here. Marvin is of course his bestest of best friends and they spend all day playing together. But when it's bedtime, Bertha and Woody's baby, Crow, snuggles right on his back and goes to sleep! How sweet is that?

We have a name for our new goat; Charlie. Thanks to my mom for reminding me that every single pet I had as a child was named Charlie and farm daddy's first dog was also named Charlie when he was little, so it was just perfect.

Morning feeding. I love all the noise when I let them out in the morning. Everyone is always so excited. The goats keep eating the chicken and duck food though and I need to figure out a way to stop that. Q the special needs duck has joined the rest of the flock. The two original ducks, Frick and Frack, have found a new home on an 11 acre farm. They have a 3 acre pond and a couple smaller ponds on the property. They fell in love with the horses and kept following them up to their barn! Crow, Bertha and Woody's chick, is finally starting to come out and hang around the others. She's still scared and will run off back to the hen house if any of the other animals move too fast, but she gets better each day. Our new goat still needs a name, but this morning he played with Marvin for a little bit. I know in time they will play a lot and be best buddies, but watching the animals try to find their place in the group always makes me feel so bad for them. The mommy in me wants to go make everyone accept them right away and love them.

He's here and he's a big baby!!! 3/4 fainting goat, 1/4 NDG, 6 months old. Marvin wants desperately to be his best friend and he's just not too sure about that plan yet. When we came inside he screamed. I mean he SCREAMED! Marvin cried at the back door when we let him stay outside at first, but this guy's cry is SO much louder! You can hear it bouncing off the mountains across from us. The neighbors are NOT going to like us much until he gets used to his new home.

In other news, Q the special needs duck and Crow the chick have been outside completely for a week or so now. Q has finally joined the group of ducks and has been accepted. He's actually a turd with the newer Indian Runner boy! But they all seem to love him and put up with his bratty behavior. Crow spends most of her time in the hen house, but she does venture out to eat and drink while the chickens and ducks have wandered to the far end of the yard. This will be the first night that Marvin stays outside too though. I'm not nearly as worried about him as I am about farm daddy. He may sneak out in the middle of the night with a sleeping bag to be with them!

Pending a call from the current owner, we should be buying this little wether tomorrow and bringing him home as a brother for Marvin! I'm so excited!

Marvin goes to the vet tomorrow and it's not a minute too soon. He's now four months old and VERY full of himself. He is a daddy's boy all the way and lives to torment mommy. Tonight while trying to bring in Crow, the little chick that hatched here, he rammed me good. Horns scratched the crap out of my arm. Got my shins. Ouch! So I will be skipping and singing tomorrow as I drop his little butt off!!

After that we have to take one of the dogs to the local vet. His ears have been bothering him and the treatment we've been doing isn't working, so time to ramp it up and go prescription for the poor guy.

Then picking up our youngest and her two kids and bringing them back home with me. She has her third child due any time now and a Dr appt tomorrow, so she will stay with us tomorrow night.

Then it's back to the goat vet to pick up Marvin and hope they send home an anesthesia doggie bag for him! He needs to be living outside right now but we agreed that we won't do that until he has a friend. Sadly, the brother or sister we were expecting died with the mom when one of their cows kicked her. So this weekend we will be looking at some local goats to see which works best with Marvin and hope that since he's bottle fed he won't distance himself because of another non-bottle fed goat. If he does I'm pretty sure it will crush farm daddy.

Marvin was scheduled to go for his geld tomorrow, but I think we are going to reschedule for a day next week when I am off work so I can be with him too. Once he has healed we have found a little baby goat to bring home to be his buddy. It will be his half brother or half sister, depending on which we choose. Little Q the special needs duck has gotten so big. He swims like a fish and loves to attack the shower curtain! And his coloring is just gorgeous, isn't it?
