Hay Bale Fires:

We have been busy lately with all these fires. Alot of folks have lost their hay bales in these fires. Hay bales can not be put out with water. We can only let them burn and use tractors and hand tools to spread the hay to allow them to burn faster. Often times we have to babysit these overnight. Some tips for your hay bales:

1) Don't stack all your hay in the same spot. If you have 50 bales, consider spreading them out in groups of 5-10 each at different locations.

2) Don't stack your bales close to your house.

3) Don't stack your bales close to the road. We have been on numerous fires where a chain dragging on the road or a tire blow out has caused sparks leading to a wildfire.

And finally, In these drought conditions, round bales are over $100 each. Consider insuring your bales.
