Last week was the Kentucky Compost Council Annual Conference. Our amazing team brought home Kentucky Composter of the Year Award. That's Charlie and Maja, James, Willie and Martha. We couldn't do it without everyone! Also, big thanks to Keith McKenzie, Executive Director of the KCC, for organizing a great event!

These are some of the people who help to keep this thing moving and growing. We process a lot of waste for Bowling Green and the surrounding area and couldn't do it without them!

Looking back at March 2022 when we collected 87 pounds of food waste in these black bins in a single day and considering the 40 tons of food waste we unloaded from semi-trucks today, it's easy to see how things have changed.

We recently had the opportunity to help another local business. kanbolcorncontainers is a manufacturing business based out of Auburn making compostable food containers from Kentucky corn. They sent all of the leftover corn husks and stalks to our site to be composted!

Our tipping and mixing bay is a simple three sided containment area. It's where all material enters our site and the compost process starts. Here is a "fresh" load of food waste. It is tipped from the truck then mixed with older waste and wood before being covered with fresh wood to keep the smell down and the birds out. From the bay all material heads out to a windrow in the field.

A small team making a big impact by turning your food scraps into healthy compost! Look out for our newest addition, Martha, at the Community Farmers Market () all summer. At the market you will be able to buy bagged compost, start food scrap collection service and learn about the importance of composting.

Who needs a drone when you have a 20' wood chip pile! Here you can see the migration of a compost pile. On the left where the ground is dark is where the windrow use to be. We turn it over weekly to mix all of the material together.
