You’ll never convince me that there is something that tastes better than a tomato sandwich.

Tomatoes fresh from our garden on a loaf of fresh baked sourdough marble rye bread!

I am so grateful to have the time to learn new things so I can enjoy something like going out into my garden on a warm summer evening, picking a tomato fresh off the vine, coming into a cool home that is robust with the smell of freshly baking bread.

This is the most serene experience and it only took me nine years to fully sink into allowing myself to experience the joy our homestead has brought me.

So, I did it.

I finally made a successful sourdough loaf!

I am so excited that this turned out!!

It’s 33% whole wheat flour too!!

The whole wheat flour is part of why I was struggling to master this.

I am so proud of this!!!

And, from here on out, I will never buy a loaf of bread again!

Wowza!

I don’t want to brag… but… dang this is good!!!

One thing that I do best is bake.

When crafting this recipe I wanted to focus on capturing the essence of the vanilla cake I remembered eating as a kid, for the Fourth of July … but with a twist.

This is a whole wheat cake, with a QUARTER of the added sugar of a conventional cake recipes.

The flavors meld so well together without it needing to be overpowered with sweetness!

Who doesn’t love a good berry cake for the fourth?

We planted blueberry bushes almost ten years ago.

We only have three of the original four we planted.

Then five years ago we planted more.

We are so grateful for the abundance our homestead provides for us.

It took us the better part of a decade to get our homesteading feet on the ground, and this year has proven all of the hard work was well worth it.

I’ve only been waiting for one of my five peaches to ripen this year. 🤣

There is nothing better than growing your own peaches, and not having to worry about the chemicals that are being used to grow them!

We use drawstring bags to keep the pests off of our peaches!

It has been an absolute game changer!!!

P.S. Ignore my dirty fingers, we work here. 🤣🤣🤣

Ooooo we are so excited for this Cucumber, tomato, onion salad!!!

We are excited because it is almost completely sourced from our own finds at the The Rockmart Farmers Market!!

The cucumbers and BEAUTIFUL tomatoes come from the 411farms.

The micro greens are from gracie.greens.

And to top it all off the delicious balsamic vinegar comes from squirrelmadeproducts!!

We love supporting other homesteaders and farmers while we are waiting for our own garden to be ready to enjoy!!
