Although no reported cases have been recorded in Aransas County, now is the time to stay vigilant.

The safety of our guests, pets, wildlife is a priority at Goose Island State Park. We encourage everyone to help us be “Fly Spies” by taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their animals from the New World Screwworm.

If you observe a live animal with maggots or suspicious wounds while visiting the park, please report it to park staff immediately.

🚢🌴 Port Aransas Ferry Heads Up!

If you're planning a trip to Port Aransas or heading back toward Aransas Pass this summer, pack a little extra patience along with the sunscreen.

Expect longer ferry waits than usual as increased ship traffic through the channel, heavy summer tourism, and ongoing ferry landing construction all combine to slow things down. One of the ferry ramps is currently closed as part of a major TxDOT improvement project, which means traffic can back up quickly, especially on weekends, holidays, and during peak afternoon hours.

The ferry ride itself still only takes a few minutes, but the line to get on can stretch well beyond an hour during busy periods. Summer weekends have always been crowded, but this year could be even slower than normal due to the construction work.

🌞 Beach Bum Tip:

Head over early in the morning if possible.

Avoid Sunday afternoons if you're leaving the island.

Bring cold drinks, snacks, and a good playlist.

Check ferry wait times before you leave.
