As you can tell by Zena, the welcoming environment of the property also made the blackberries feel right at home. The summer heat did its job, the sun shades now removed for fall weather. The trellis system worked well, all 9 plants grew multiple vines, many longer than the 15 ft width provided, but with multiple levels there is plenty of room. Lots of work and enjoyment seeing how something so simple can turn into such a project.
Did you know that blackberry plants harvest NO fruit the first year? That’s right, we will get nothing from the vines this year. But that’s okay, once planted there will be many years of harvest, as the saying goes, most good things take time!
