I bought my first pair of Silverline hoof trimmers yesterday, and holy smokes... they are 1000% worth the hype! After using these, it feels like up until this point I had been trimming hooves with kindergarten scissors. 6 out of 5 stars, will recommend to a friend!

We had a great day at the Fall Saluki Showdown, and definitely hope to come back next year! Two of the highlights were Hoosier Homestead KKA Magic winning 2x/1st Place Alpine Junior Kid, and Hoosier Homestead KKA Nirvana going 2x/1st Place Alpine Senior Kid. We are proud of these junior does in our herd.

However, while winning classes with does we bred was fun, it did not hold a candle to our "Chick-fil-A employee and her cow" winning Most Funniest in the costume contest.. it was *our pleasure* to see them compete.

Our family had a great weekend at the Kidding Around Classic! Evie and Kickapoo Valley Piper Moment were GCH and BOB in both rings, and Logan showed Hoosier Homestead KVLP Ruth to 1st Place in both rings and Reserve in one. We are proud of our kids and our goats.

This is always one of our favorite shows of the year, and we enjoyed spending time catching up with our goat show family. The highlight of the social hour was being educated and entertained by Brenda Lightner and her spontaneous AI masterclass, which everyone should attend if one pops again.

LAST GOAT SALE OF 2025!!!

We thought we struck black gold when we finally had twin black doe kids born on the farm this past spring, but quickly learned that there can be too much of a good thing when they are beautiful and identical in every way. The only obvious thing to do was hoard them both all summer while we tried to choose which one to keep, and after lots of conversation and eenie-meenies we are finally ready to offer one for sale. (Though we did discuss multiple times just keeping them both. Who wouldn't want 8 yearlings next spring, right? 🙄🤦‍♀️)

Without further ado, we now present the French Alpine doe kid Hoosier Homestead KKA Margaret. Born 4/12/25, she is solid black, with the exception of a white star on her forehead, which is sure to make her your very own Black Beauty. This doe kid is wiiiide through the rear escutcheon, so if fat bottomed girls make your rockin' world go round, then she is your every dream come true.

Her dam, Pleasant-Grove AK Mystery, was the Grand Champion Senior Dairy Doe at our 2024 county fair as a mere milking yealing, and she was the Grand Champion Junior Dairy Doe in 2023 as well. Judges have always consistently commented on her power and width, which was something we expected to see from that dam line.

Her sire, Kara Kahl Austin, comes from the famed "A-line" at Kara Kahl Farm, which has produced many of our favorite alpines to ever exist. Austin's pedigree is a beautiful linebreeding of Kara Kahl PGL Arugula, dam of the 2021 ADGA National Champion Alpine and Best Udder, Kara Kahl PGW Akebono. His daughters showcase his lovely general appearance, stand correct on their feet and legs, and the udders that we have seen from him are beautiful.

Margaret is weighing nearly 80 pounds, so if milking yearlings are your thing, she will be ready to breed this fall to freshen in 2026. She is located in Rockville, Indiana.

More hard choices... The next goat we have to offer is this Alpine yearling. She is Hoosier Homestead KVLP Misty. Her dam was Grand Champion at our county Fair in 2023 and 2024, and her sire's dam is a finished champion. Misty showed well as a kid, and won her classes at our county fair and the Indiana State Fair, as well as at open shows.

It's that time of year, when we're looking at the hay we have stored, making breeding plans, and evaluating space constraints... and hard choices have to be made to let go of good goats that we have been holding on to and hoarding for ourselves.

The first doe we are going to make available is this 2 year old French Alpine. She is Pleasant-Grove AK Mystery. Mystery was the Grand Champion Junior Dairy Doe at our county fair in 2023, the Grand Champion Senior Dairy Doe in 2024, and she has continued to top classes amidst tough competition this 2025 show season. This doe will be perfect for a 4-H family wanting a competitive doe, or for someone who is interested in open shows.
