Thanks to our oldest friends at , we're able to lay shared claim to one final medal:

"Holy Owl" Foeder-Aged Wild Vienna L***r (5.5%) took home Silver at the Maryland Craft B**r Competition this year!

We gushed ad nauseum about this b**r when it released and we now have one final bit of posthumous validation to share with our best friends and neighbors.

Thank you to Tony and the whole crew at Saints Row for being wonderful friends and partners throughout.

And now thank you especially for creating one last great moment to celebrate together 🍻

Today is our very last day in operation.

Starting from our very first, it was clear there was one unmistakable thing that would make this place extra special: you.

The love and emotional support we've received since announcing we'd reached the end has been overwhelming and humbling. Thank you... for all of it.

In expressing your love, many of you have also expressed shock that we're closing. We've learned that, from the outside, we've looked incredibly successful. That, in and of itself, is quite a compliment to our team who has busted their tails to provide a welcoming atmosphere and top quality b**r.

Unfortunately, in this case, the simplest reason is the correct one: for a very long time, we have earned less money than we've spent. As a result, we've now reached the point where we're out of money.

The reasons for this are plentiful.

Some have existed since we opened: We built big, took on a bunch of debt, and leased a lot of space.

Some are relatively new, especially in the wake of COVID: changed consumer nightlife habits, inflation, intense downward pressure on wholesale price, and an overall decrease in b**r consumption.

Lastly, shuttered tap rooms meant nearly ALL breweries had to invest in distribution, which intensified most of the prior impacts (but did not increase consumption.)

We simply didn't build our business with a global pandemic and all that would result from it in mind.

We hope this brings to light the struggles your local businesses are still facing. The only remedy is to constantly choose to spend at your local favorites. No vote but the one you make with your wallet counts.

This is not the warm fuzzy message you often get from our crew at True Respite but it is the unfortunate reality of our system and especially the moment we're in.

And in that spirit, please . It may be too late for us but our peers still need your support.

This is our last week of operations, and tomorrow is 5th Tuesday. We want to stay true to the spirit of 5th Tuesday right till the end, so we will be offering $3 pours of "Week Away" Hazy IPA. (We're awfully low on b**r, so we don't have enough inventory to offer $3 pours of everything. You guys have been coming in thirsty!)

5th Tuesday is a tradition we will seriously miss. Come celebrate one of our favorite "holidays" with us!

New Release: "Absolutely BBA Barley" Barrel Aged Barleywine (11.0%) in collaboration w/ 🍻

This big, beautiful, English-style Barleywine was aged in an Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon barrel for 10 months. Toffee, vanilla, oak, and spirit characters swirl, lending layers of malty complexity. This is a true treat for lovers of malt, wood, and booze.

We'd like to extend our sincere thanks to Amit and the rest of the Absolutely team for their partnership, especially over these last couple years as we've designed, executed, and enjoyed four different custom collaborations--each unique and delicious in its own right.

This b**r is the final release for our brewery, marking a fitting end to our run as a brewery who has prided itself on community and collaboration.

We have just 58 bottles of this b**r available in the tap room, plus Absolutely W**e & Spirits (Columbia, MD) has a small amount at their location as well.

It has been an honor dreaming and releasing a wide assortment of inspired b**rs for you all. This journey has been the privilege of a lifetime and we sincerely hope you enjoy the final fruit of this labor of love.

We've had a ton of requests to purchase the art on the walls of the tap room. Currently, the only piece for sale is "Vulture". Price is $200 for the print. Please DM if interested.

If you are interested in any other prints, you can DM here. We'll be keeping a list and working with Ashley to see if we can fulfill requests for specific prints, including prints that were not originally on the tap room walls. We make no promises at this time, but we will keep a list and notify if we are able to fulfill these requests. Pricing will be $200+/print depending on quantities and availability.

Artist Spotlight:

Philip was the final regular artist to join our label design rotation. We were lucky to discover him through our neighbors, . On many occasions, we saw the wonderful artwork he'd created for them (without knowing it was Philip who'd done it) and we kept asking "who did this one??" It kept being Philip.

With Tony's permission, we reached out to Philip to see if he had availability to pick up a few labels for us. He quickly became a staple in our own rotation as well.

Philip excels at creating an intangible sense of play with his art. His illustrations often bring a sort of "lived in" feel and keep it lighthearted by avoiding too many straight lines. The best way to explain his art is to say that it makes you feel like you've been friends for a long time (even if you haven't met.)

Interestingly, his letterwork has also been a frequent feature of his designs for us. I wouldn't typically assume someone with his hand-drawn style would excel at both playful illustration and fancy letterwork... and yet he does. This just speaks to his breadth of talent.

It has been a joy to work with Philip and his work, much like our other artists, has helped to build our very sense of self as a brand. His imagery has created memories and moments that will last forever.

Artist Spotlight:

Ashley was the third graphic designer to join the team. We also discovered her work at one of our first Maker's Markets. She was excited, energetic, and stocked to the gills with some of the most unique and breathtaking nature-themed digital art we had ever seen. Immediately, we knew we needed her somehow involved with our labels.

We weren't exactly sure how to incorporate her heavily nature-themed content into our generally abstract or geometric b**r labels, but the art was too unique and too exceptional not to try. Fortunately, right around the same time, we started dabbling in la**rs.

The l***r b**rs themselves were beautiful in their simplicity and approachability. Too often, when other craft breweries were producing similarly simple and approachable la**rs, they felt the need to mimic the design styles of the macros to sell the style. We saw an opportunity to stand apart in our approach to branding.

Simple names highlighting the animals depicted let the art and the b**r be the showpieces. This approach paid dividends.

Thanks to both exceptional b**r and Ashley's exceptional label art, the ***r Series was picked up by and distributed regularly to a national audience. This series put us on the map outside of Maryland and remains what we are known for with the national audience. Ashley was critical in opening this pathway.

Her mastery of form, her unique ability to use color layering to create texture and depth, and her ability to capture the pure essence of many forms of nature make her truly one-of-a-kind.

Her passion for the outdoors is lived not only through her art but her need to participate in it. She's as authentic as they come and a sincere pleasure to work with. As with each of our artists, we believe that she created art that will live on well past the existence of this brewery and will play a large role in defining our legacy.
