Saturday’s Jam & Canning Workshops were such a wonderful experience! 🫐

We held two sessions and welcomed such a fun mix of people, that by the end, truly felt like a little community gathered around the table together.

We made things super simple with our easy 3-ingredient jam recipe. For many of us, canning was always presented an all-day chore with pots everywhere and countless steps. My biggest goal with this workshop was to show that it doesn’t have to be that way.

We talked about making small batches, making refrigerator jam, and using berries sitting in the fridge that might be a little past their fresh-eating stage. Instead of letting them go to waste, they can be used to make a beautiful batch of homemade jam.

Everyone made their own small batches of jam, then came together as one big group to process our jars in the canner. It was such a fun and approachable introduction to jam making and water-bath canning. We hope everyone left feeling a little less intimidated and a lot more confident about trying it at home.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us! This is exactly what I love about these workshops, learning something useful, slowing down for a little while, and bringing people together.

Fresh market bouquets! A little piece of the farm to take home with you. 💛💐

Each bouquet is hand-picked and arranged using a beautiful mix of flowers grown right here on the farm. Sunflowers, Zinnias, Celosia, Ageratum and plenty of other seasonal favorites!

No two bouquets are exactly alike, what’s blooming in the fields determines what makes its way into each one.

Stop into the farm market and grab one for your kitchen table, brighten someone’s day, or just treat yourself because sometimes you don’t need a reason for fresh flowers.❤️

While everyone gets a front row seat on what’s happenings around the farm market, here’s an update of what’s happening behind the scenes around the farm!

Right now, we are DEEP into our growing season. Fields are being tilled and replanted. New crops are still going into the ground. Our greenhouses have been cleared out and are getting ready for their fall adventures. And for our crews? It’s harvest, harvest, harvest!

The crops have been beautifully bountiful this year, and we truly couldn’t be more pleased or more thankful.

But that certainly doesn’t mean the season has been perfect.

One of the ways we keep fresh vegetables coming throughout the season is through succession planting. Instead of planting a crop just once, we plant it again and again throughout the growing season. As one planting finishes, hopefully another is getting ready to harvest.

Hopefully being the key word. 😉

Because not every planting makes it.

Too much rain in a low field can mean losing an entire planting of broccoli. A stretch of extreme heat can change our plans overnight. And then there’s our ongoing disagreement with the local wildlife…

Don’t get us wrong, we love having wildlife around the farm.

But when the birds go through 80% of a sweet corn field the DAY before we’re supposed to harvest, or the deer decide to eat the center out of an entire planting of green leaf lettuce…

Well, now they’ve entered enemy territory. 😂🦌🌽

Then there are the everyday mechanical surprises.

A tractor implement loses a bushing. A field truck’s alternator kicks the bucket in the middle of the field. Something breaks at exactly the moment you need it most.

You fix it, change the plan, and keep moving.

That’s farming.

Some days are beautiful harvests and perfect rows. Other days are mud, broken equipment, eaten crops, and figuring out Plan B… followed shortly by Plans C and D.

But through all of it, the harvest keeps coming and this year’s abundance has given us an awful lot to be grateful for. ❤️

And lately, we’ve started noticing another little change around the farm…

The long, hot summer days are beginning to give way to cooler nights.

Around here, that’s one of the first little whispers that fall is on its way. 🍂🎃

And believe us… there’s already plenty happening behind the scenes for that, too. 🌾🌽😉
