It is nice to have cooler temps today thats for sure. I made a new cake today, Peanut butter and Chocolate Chip, with a chocolate glaze. Also put together a plum and triple berry Victoria sandwich cake. Yell if you would like either of them. 540-493-0029

105° here today, yuck! I normally bake sourdough on Thursdays, in the upstairs oven. Just not happening with these temps...

105° here today, yuck! I normally bake sourdough on Thursdays, in the upstairs oven. Just not happening with these temps. I took advantage of the cannery facility in Glade Hill this morning and made 38 pints of applesauce and 27 quarts of spicy tomato juice. I did have to can some tomatoes ( 26 quarts) in the downstairs kitchen here . Thankfully it stays pretty cool down there. All the animals here are stressed a bit in this heat unfortunately. Pigs stay in the mud, which i cool down every so often and the chickens and turkeys simply stand still in one shady spot and do nothing. I don't blame them. And with no rain here for the past 7 weeks everything is super dry and crunchy. Hopefully the heat will ease up in a day or 2.

Farm raised pork, local honey, eggs from pasture raised hens and great late season perennial plants all available here as well. Have great fresh sourdough , a damson plum Victoria sandwich cake and zuchinni bread available at the farmstand now! Plus lots of great local produce. Still have some nice late season freestone peaches here and plenty nice apples. Lots of canning tomatoes still available as well. Bi- color corn here today also.
