Home Grown Homestead

Home Grown Homestead A practicing sustainable, Non-GMO, beyond organic farm, working in harmony with creation to provide nutritional, flavor rich food to the glory of God

We are the Hodges family, and our farm started in 2012 as a small blueberry orchard that we planted as a plan of providing quality food to our community. While we waited on the orchard to get up and into production, we were able to provide the community with the overflow from our seasonal crops and eggs that were already being produced and using for ourselves. Since then our farm has grown conside

rably. We are now providing thousands of pounds of food per year to our community and other local communities as far as D.C., and are proud to serve our great community with the best food possible. We are a practicing sustainable, Non-GMO, beyond organic (chemical free (not even organic chemicals) and synthetic free) farm with a desire to provide the best nutritional and flavor rich food possible to our community and to the glory of God. We believe in putting back more than we take away to ensure soil and animal health. Good animal husbandry and humane practices, allowing all of the animals to be exactly what they were designed to be and provide for us the best quality meat and eggs that they have the potential to provide. On our farm, we are raising pastured pigs that are born here and finished here, pastured chickens for eggs, many hives of bees that provide honey and other multiple products from the bees wax, Jimmy Red Corn that we hand harvest, husk, air dry and hand shell for our stone ground grits and cornmeal, seasonal fruits and vegetables that are available from late spring through fall, and last but definitely not least, garment tanned fur (fox, beaver, coyote, racoon and otter). It is because of you, our community and customers, that we are able to survive as a farm. We appreciate you and thank you for your support. We look forward to the opportunity and ability to continue to serve you as your local farm!

A beautiful basket of color. Our food should be full of color and not just brown on a plate. Even through all of the hardships of the growing season, it's the bounty that rewards us. Sow, reap and enjoy!

Best onion harvest we've had in a couple of years. Nice bulbs and no mold or bugs under the skins. Tried some new things with mulch and manure this season and it seemed to pay off. Next season may be completely different, who knows, but we'll try to duplicate the results. It's all an experiment with ever changing variables. That's part of what makes it so much fun.
