Getting to know your farmer part 2.

Meet Jack Arlo.

This lean mean machine is turning the ripe old age of 7 (in less than 2 months) and has a passion for digging in the dirt, building forts, playing games, and learning about dinosaurs. If you ask this kid what he wishes to be when he grows up he will tell you a rancher and a paleontologist. He spends all of his free time running around outside and loves his family and friends with all of his heart. He is by far the most empathetic member of our family and is always attempting to cheer up his loved ones. If you are a member of his friends group, count yourself lucky, he will keep you entertained while loving you fiercely.

He is incredibly talented in math and has a logical mind which means he is frequently questioning everything and everyone. He enjoys moving the sheep from pasture to pasture and will tell you his favorite part of raising meat birds is processing day. He will never stray away during the processing and has a firm understanding of where his food comes from. When you ask him about his animals he will, without cracking a face, say "well we eat them!"

This boy is a mama's boy, he has no reservations about it and never becomes embarrassed over all the kisses, hugs or cuddles. At least not yet. He has a love for God and every night he starts his prayers off the same, "Dear God, please let me have dinosauar dreams! But not scary ones and thanks for *insert todays gratitude...*" Seriously he has a soft heart and a bright soul. We are so incredibly blessed by his presence in our lives and we thank God daily for him and his health.

Getting to know your farmer.

First, let's start with the man who had the dream and the sheer strength to make this farm happen.

Jason McCracken.

Those who know him well will describe him as a God fearing, loyal friend who is incredibly family oriented while always delivering you the hard truths.

Those who first meet him would describe him as quiet but in truth he is far from quiet. He is calm, compassionate, and has spent his life shepherding animals. The species have changed, the locations have changed, the size of the properties have been ever evolving. But one thing holds true, his intention.

The intention behind his dreams and continued dedication is to better this world. To better our food systems, to educate those who have the desire to learn and to inform those who don't. To bring people closer to God and knowing Him in their hearts. To provide for his family in a life that mimicks a more simple time. To get back to his roots and spend time improving the land God has blessed us with. πŸ™

Now that I am done boosting my man (in case you were curious his darling wife is writing this πŸ˜‰). Here is the fun facts about my main man.
Jason and Alex met when he was the ripe ole age of 16. He was the pillar of support throughout high school and spent all of his spare time training Tennessee Walking horses for a local family at their barn. He had big dreams of owning a large horse barn and ranching for a living. His favorite shows are old Westerns and if he could transport back in time it would be directly into Little House on the Prairie. When the horse market fell through Jason was not one to give up and he learned everything he could about sheep and goats. He had a herd of over 250 by the time he was 18 and he was the proud owner of a profitable business. He continued this while Alex began college at the local university and was financially and psychologically her rock during the next 3.5 years when he finally convinced her to accept his proposal of marriage (he had only been trying since he turned 17). They were married in May 2015, nearly 2.5 years later. During all these years Jason continued to raise livestock but he also held a 3position as a route man for Little Debbie. Anyone who knows Jason well is shaking their head and smiling at this point reflecting back on the years of his livestock escapades. Alex jokes the only thing not for sale during these years was her. They moved to Montana from 2016 to 2017 and returned when his father had a surgery that required an extended recovery time and needed assistance. In April 2018 he welcomed his son Jack to the world and his life shifted from building a ranch to building a legacy for his son. It became clear his wishes were to grow up and pass along a business to his child where he could be with his family 24/7 living in a manner of simplicity and love. In April 2021 he welcomed his daughter Lily and made a big realization that the current house and land which they had built from scratch 8 years ago wasn't big enough to leave a legacy to 2 children. So he sold the house and land and has since been building our next dream place. This is where you come in to his life journey and we hope you stick around to watch the years unfold.

We are blessed beyond measure and count every day spent together and every minute as a gift.

Food for thought.
We understand that multi-species grazing means more than simply placing a multitude of animals on a piece of soil. It is understanding that there are times when removal of a species entirely is needed to allow recovery of soil health. With that said we did a shift from sheep and presently we are grazing cattle, a few rams, and pasture pigs. Be sure to stay tuned as our meat birds arrive in less than 2 weeks and we begin our 3rd year of meat birds for our own family and continue to supply your family's freezer with quality items.

Our lambing season is in FULL swing. After 1 short week we have over half of our 100+ flock lambed. We have twins and triplets running across fresh green pastures and happy mamas munching around. We want to continue to offer our full transparency with our sheep. We raise them holistically with complete grass fed and grass finished meat only. No feed, no antibiotics, no hormones, nothing funky that you wouldn't want to ingest yourself.

We do offer lamb for sale and feel free to reach out regarding pricing.

We are still offering a select number of eggs for sale weekly. Our flock size was dramatically decreased before this past winter.

We continue to offer farm pickup of our products and McCracken Cattle beef at Church Hill and Rogersville. As well as numerous other locations.

Shop small. Shop local. Support farmers. Support families.
