✨🧙♀️ Here’s to the Original Witches — the First Craft Brewers! 🍻✨
Before there were breweries with shiny tanks and tap lists, there were alewives and brewsters — the OG craft brewers. These were women who perfected the art of fermentation long before it was “cool.” They brewed beer in their kitchens and sold it to their communities — the true keepers of the local pint!
But here’s where things got bubbly in a bad way… 😬 During times of persecution, these hardworking women were slandered and accused of witchcraft. Their tall pointed hats? Those were worn so they could stand out in the marketplace — a kind of “find your friendly neighborhood brewer” sign! The big black cauldrons? Perfect for boiling mash. And those black cats hanging around? Mousers, of course — every good grain keeper needs pest control! 🐈⬛
Over time, these symbols of skilled women brewers got twisted into something darker, and the profession was pushed into the hands of men. But we haven’t forgotten the brewsters who started it all. 🍺
So, this Halloween season at River Remedy Brewing Co., we raise a glass to those pioneering women — the ones who stirred the pot, wore the hat, and brewed the magic that started it all. 🧹🍻
Here’s to the witches who walked so craft brewers could run! 🪄💫
