Power Source Genetic Alliance is proud to welcome its newest member, Cooper Hereford Ranch of Willow Creek, Montana.

Cooper Hereford Ranch brings a strong commitment to quality Hereford genetics, performance, and stewardship, making them an excellent addition to the PSGA network. We are excited to partner with them and look forward to the future success this collaboration will bring.

Please join us in welcoming Cooper Hereford Ranch to the Power Source Genetic Alliance family. Please see their bio below: Cooper Hereford Ranch sits nestled amidst the mountainous foothills of southwestern Montana near where the Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin rivers converge to form the headwaters of the mighty Missouri River. Homesteaded in 1914, our family is proud to have roots in agriculture that date back over a century and are especially proud of our legacy as performance Hereford breeders.

In 1947, patriarch Jack Cooper purchased his first Hereford cattle – 40 Line 1 females – from the U.S. Range and Livestock Experiment Station in Miles City, MT. At the time, this closed line of Hereford cattle was largely unfamiliar to most breeders. It was Jack’s brother-in-law, Dr. Ray Woodward, a geneticist and Line 1 project leader that ultimately encouraged Jack to invest in the closed bloodline. This decision, more than any other, was instrumental in shaping our family’s legacy in the cattle industry.

Eighty years later, our commitment to line breeding coupled with over half a century of data collection and performance testing has enabled Cooper Hereford Ranch to build a reputation across the Industry for producing functional, reliable cattle with eye appeal that breed unmatched predictability and uniformity.

Copper Hereford was founded and homesteaded in 1914. Over the past century, the herd at Cooper Hereford Ranch has grown from 40 Line 1 females to nearly 300 registered cows and 150 commercial recipients. The recipient herd consists primarily of homegrown F1 baldys that are the cornerstone of our ET program which started over 30 years ago. Cooper Hereford has hosted annual sales since 1967. Each spring on the second Tuesday in March we market close to 100 yearling bulls and 30 yearling heifers in an on-site production sale at the ranch. Our genetics continue to be sought after by purebred and commercial breeders alike across the U.S. and Internationally.

Over one hundred years of hard work and good management have transformed the original 480 acres homestead (Silver Brook Farm) into a fertile 4,500 acre farming and ranching operation that annually produces close to 3,000 tons of hay and 600 ton of silage in addition to farming 500 acres of dryland grains. Owners Mark and Cristy Cooper have four daughters; Tracy, Kelsy, Katie and Natalie. They work closely with their two middle daughters, Katie and Kelsy, and son-in-law Dave Hanson to continue the Cooper Hereford Ranch legacy. They take pride in respecting the beliefs and practices of previous generations while simultaneously interweaving progressive and innovative farming and ranching practices into the operation. They believe strongly in the value of a hard day’s work and in treating their customers and peers with integrity and honesty. Cooper Hereford Ranch

Power Source Genetic Alliance is pleased to announce our new members Tim and Crissy Thomas owners of Stillwater Murray Greys. We are excited for their inputs and look forward to promoting the Murray Grey benefits. Please see their bio:
Tim and Crissy Thomas, based outside Bozeman, Montana, operate a regeneratively managed Murray Grey program focused on practical, profit driven cattle. After transitioning from a commercial Angus herd in 2015, they developed a grass based system centered on fertility, moderate frame size, and lowmaintenance, maternally strong females.
Their cows are expected to calve unassisted at 24 months and breed back within a 45 day season. Developed on high elevation grass without creep, the herd reflects a strict culling philosophy and a commitment to real world functionality over show ring appearance, with an emphasis on hormonal traits.
Running one of the larger registered Murray Grey herds in North America, the Thomases retain their own replacements and place strong emphasis on the female herd. Only a small percentage of males are left intact, resulting in maternally focused, herd ready bulls developed from proven females. Tim and Crissy view understanding cattle as a lifelong pursuit, continuously refining their program through observation, data, and practical experience.
They are active in the development of the breed through volunteer work with the registry and are passionate about increasing awareness of Murray Greys. While still a developing breed in the United States, they believe Murray Greys hold a strong place in the direct to consumer beef market.
They offer registered Murray Grey breeding stock through the American Murray Grey Association, genetics, and regeneratively raised, grass finished beef, and host their annual production sale the first week of November. Tim and Crissy are honored to be part of this coalition and to help promote functional, profitable cattle.

We want to thank Jon and Stephanie Lewis, long-time friends and customers, for buying our “pick of the herd” lot at yesterday’s Red River Beefmaster sale in Paris, TX. We also want to thank Daniel Litton, Tom House and Tyler Blackmon for their purchase of our heifer lots. We know they will do a great job for their programs.

It was a tremendous sale, averaging over $6750 on 75 lots of excellent Beefmaster females. Thanks to the buyers, consigners and sale management for making it a fantastic sale!

Power Source Genetic Alliance members are proud to welcome our newest member, Lee Miller of Paint Valley Farms, into the Power Source Genetic Alliance. Please see their bio below: Our History

Paint Valley Farms, located in Millersburg, Ohio, is a progressive Shorthorn seedstock operation dedicated to producing practical, maternally driven cattle built for real-world performance. Led by Lee and Dawn Miller and their family, the program serves both seedstock and commercial cattle producers across the United States and Canada.

Built on proven cow families and disciplined genetic selection, Paint Valley Farms emphasizes maternal strength, calving ease, structural integrity, carcass merit, and long-term production efficiency. The program integrates phenotype with genomically enhanced EPDs, performance data, and extensive sire evaluation to continually improve herd quality while maintaining the functionality required in commercial production systems.

At its core, the operation is grounded in the belief that elite cattle begin with productive, efficient cows. Longevity, fertility, udder quality, disposition, and calf performance remain central to the breeding philosophy. Cattle are developed in practical, forage-based environments designed to promote soundness, durability, and real-world adaptability.

An investment in consistency has defined much of our progress. Cowboys need sound, rugged, big-barreled, calving-ease bulls that transmit both carcass merit for the grid and maternal ability for the keeper pens.

We utilize A.I. and embryo transfer to advance genetic progress, but we found that calf crop consistency improved dramatically when we invested in high-quality herd bulls and used them heavily in our program. Those decisions have significantly shaped our cowherd over time. The herd sires we acquired years ago performed so well that we became even more convinced—Shorthorn cattle can meet and exceed the highest demands of today’s cattlemen. These are the bulls now working in our pastures.

Today, Paint Valley Farms hosts annual production sales that draw buyers from across North America and is widely recognized for producing Shorthorn cattle that consistently balance maternal excellence with performance and functional efficiency.

Our Mission

To raise practical, maternally focused Shorthorn cattle that deliver functional performance, longevity, and carcass merit for cattlemen across North America.
