A peek at our peppers!!
🌈 A Rainbow of Peppers! Which kind is your favorite?
Our fields are bursting with color and our bushel baskets overflowing with fresh hand-picked peppers.
If you’ve ever been curious about the varieties we grow at Kurtzhals Farms, here’s a guide to help you decide:
🫑 Green: The classics - green peppers are packed with vitamin C and antioxidants! Greens are good for a stir-fry, sautéed with onions atop brats, sliced raw for a snack, or cut the tops off to make the perfect bowl-shape for stuffed peppers.
🔴 Red: Did you know red peppers ARE green peppers? Left on the vine longer to soak up the sun, the greens ripen into beautiful deep reds, making them sweeter and even more nutrient-dense.
🍫Chocolate: Not pictured because these will show up more towards fall (and they don’t taste like chocolate). These peppers have a mix of green and red pigments, and the industry sorts and sells them under the name chocolate.
🟣 Purple: Purple peppers are smaller and sweeter than reds. When you bake or sauté them, their purple skin turns to a pale cabbage-green color. These are so unique they’re our new favorites!
🟡 Sweet Yellow vs. Hungarian Hots: Shopping by shape is the trick. Sweet yellow banana peppers are shorter and fatter, and they also come in orange and red (see above: on the vine longer, they turn red too). The Hungarian Hot peppers are longer, leaner, and meaner! 🥵 Hunky Hots pack a feisty kick just like our Grandma Esther who could kick over her head into her 70s!
🌙 Cubanelles: Their name means “little Cuba” and these yellowish-green wrinkly ones have thin skin and very low water, which makes them the perfect frying pepper. They’re sweet, not spicy, and totally stuffable.
🔥 Jalapeños: Medium to hot - their heat varies based on the weather they grew up in. Great for salsas, over nachos, or stuffing with cream cheese and wrapping in bacon for game-day poppers.
Dang it now we are hungry for peppers!!! Stop by the stand today to stock up with a fresh !
