FIELD NOTES | When Happy Dirt was founded in 2004, growing organic sweet corn was not a viable option for farmers. In general sweet corn is relatively easy to grow; however, in order to successfully grow organic sweet corn, farmers would need organic products to control pests. But, those products didn't exist.

Twenty years later, organic farmers like Happy Dirt's Herbie Cottle are able to successfully grow and harvest organic sweet corn in abundance in North Carolina. And, we can say with confidence that organic sweet corn tastes like movie theater popcorn even without butter and salt.

Read more about organic sweet corn and what it takes to grow a crop that has been a staple commodity for centuries.
