Yesterday evening as I stepped outside to do evening chores and tuck our goat kids in for the night, I looked over the pasture and saw such a precious moment I had to record and wanted to share!

But first, a bit of back-story… in this video you will see Tumnus ( small buckling with the blue collar) and Odette (doe with red collar) playing sweetly. What makes this so precious to me is that Tumnus and his twin sister ( the little black doeling in the background) lost their mama when they were 2 weeks old; despite all our efforts to save her.

We did not breed Odette this year but she is so wonderful with the kids every year the other mamas go off to eat and leave her in charge even when she has her own kids. I’ve seen her engage and play with Tumnus and Angel before but tonight it struck me a bit differently.

Despite the joy all the goat kids bring each year, my heart has been a bit heavy all season due to the loss of Ditsy, Tumnus and Angels mama, so stepping out and seeing this moment really touched my heart.

I find it truly amazing how God uses even the most strong-willed and stubborn creatures (Odette is both) to touch our hearts and bring a measure of healing to them. Odette can be stand-offish with the adult humans, but she is pure love when it comes to kids of all species! She’s also wonderful with the small grandchildren!

After a slight delay, as we decided to try some new techniques on some of our plants this year, our vegetable and herb garden is finally all planted! For the first time, we are trying the 'trellising' method for our tomatoes, and we are pretty excited to see a difference. We are also using more containers for some of our produce, as using just a few last year yielded way better results for our various varieties of onion, carrots, and green onion. We planted more variety this year, so it will be a pretty full space when it all starts growing, but still a place where we can go and be reminded daily where our provision, blessings, and life come from. I feel God's presence and have some of my best conversations with Him while working in my garden!!

He is truly Jehovah-Jireh, for He provides all our needs!

Our dairy goat kids are over 2 months old now and ready to move on and make their own new adventures!

We have :

3 doelings:

2 are 1/8 alpine and 7/8 Oberhasli -

One has a lighter coat with black markings; she on the shy side but warms up with time. She likes you at her eye level rather than hovering over her. Very sweet tho!

Her twin has a darker coat with black markings and little spots of white here and there, 2 of which make her look like she has a mustache! She is very outgoing and loving. Loves pets and loves.

1 is 1/4 apline and 3/4 Oberhasli

she has the brown coat with black markings.
She is another one who, while very sweet and gentle, is shy and reserved and also prefers to be the one to approach.

I’ve posted 2 pictures of each kid, side by side, for better reference.

Our buck has a sweet and reserved personality and we love him! Three of our kids got his personality.

If interested, please let me know!

Spring has sprung!!

The apple trees are laden with beautiful blossoms that will become delicious apples!

The garden is tilled and it’s almost time to plant.

Flowers are beginning to bud, promising beautiful, sweet-smelling blossoms.

Tree leaves are beginning to unfurl to provide lush greenery and shady relief from the hot summer sun!

The best… our new baby goat kids are growing and romping in the pasture!

How appropriate, and so like our awesome God, that Ressurection Sunday, which we just celebrated, would be in the spring when we see all this new life each year. Through the sacrifice and resurrection of His son, Jesus, and His victory over sin and death, He gave each of us the hope of new and everlasting life!

I did not write this but could not have said it better! She ( the author) is 100% right!

It’s honestly mind blowing that this is even an issue here in Oregon, however we are constantly dealing with the uneducated…
I hunt and I fish and farming is important because I value good meat and knowing where it came from and what is in it.
For far too long, we the people of Oregon have watched decisions be made by people who dont understand or respect our way of life.
For far too long, rural communities have been talked over, not talked with.
And now we are facing IP28, a measure that threatens our local livestock, our hunting traditions, and the independence that built this state. Let me be very clear, this isn't just about policy.
This is about food security,
This is about generational knowledge,
This is about whether families who raise their own meat, who hunt to feed their children, who live off this God given land respectfully and responsibly, still have that right without government interference.
Our local farmers and ranchers are already struggling under regulation, inflation, and rising costs. IP28 adds another layer that risks pushing small operations out, while corporate suppliers step in to fill the gap.
That isn't progress, its control.
Hunting isn't cruel, it is conservation. It funds wildlife management, keeps ecosystems balanced, it feeds families, it is a part of who WE are.
If we allow policies like IP28 to pass without serious scrutiny, then we are just forfeiting our rights.
I believe Oregon thrives, when our farmers and ranchers thrive, and when hunters and outdoorsmen are respected and valued, not villanized.
We can protect animals without destroying local agriculture.
We can improve standards without compromising tradition.
We can modernize without erasing our heritage.
That requires balance, not controlling measures, written without the input of the people most affected.
We must prevent IP28 from ever seeing the light of a ballot, This isn't Red versus Blue, its local versus the disconnected.
Stop IP28.
Please copy paste and share share share.
Let’s all STOP IP28!!
Please copy and paste if you believe in this. It will devastate the ranchers and farmers in Oregon.

Happy Saturday everyone!

I wanted to add some updated photos of the 5 babies who will be ready to go to their new homes the first week of May. All are sweet loving babies! See below!

> 3 doelings:
2 are 1/8 alpine and 7/8 Oberhasli - they are a lighter Oberhasli color.

1 is 1/4 apline and 3/4 oberhasli and she is typical Oberhasli color. None of these are polled or disbudded.

Our babies are learning to eat hay with their mama’s now and I found this moment to be so precious! This is 5 of our 7 babies.

As I watch our mama goats labor, give birth, and raise their kids I marvel at how perfect God’s plans are!

These ladies take labor in stride, they don’t scream, they don’t make a fuss. They allow nature to take its course. I am with them off and on while they labor and when they go into active labor, we are there in case assistance is needed so I see the pain they experience. This is not judgement on my part, it is simply marveling at how gracious these ladies are! How misunderstood goats can be ( before having goats I misunderstood them myself!)

Once they deliver their babes, they immediately begin to clean and nuzzle them, all the while “talking” to them softly, I believe telling them they are safe and loved❤️. The bond is instant and precious.

After finishing giving birth to all babes, mom is up and encouraging those kids to stand, move around, and nurse; instinctively understanding how incredibly important it is for them to get that health- inducing, immunity boosting colostrum as soon as possible.

These ladies are protective of their offspring, watching warily yet trustingly when we pick them up to nuzzle them. Calling softly to their babes so they know mama is near. This protectiveness lessens over the first few days, but they remain ever-watchful.

They are patient and kind with their kids, teaching by example. All-in-all, I am in awe of how instinct still drives nature and how they handle the miracle of life and child-rearing! I think modern society has, in many ways, due to medical “assistance” and advice from the “pros” lost touch with the beauty, awe, responsibility, privilege, and miracle that being a parent is.

Just some observations; I was unexpectedly moved more by these births and watching our mamas this year than ever before. I just wanted to share my heart!

God’s plans and purposes are so perfect!
