We are offering a limited quantity of pastured hog shares available for pickup in March. This is the most economical way to eat the highest quality pork, connecting you to the land that nourished these special animals, and to nourish you back in turn.
Fill your freezer with all the cuts that a pig has to offer -- bacon, pork chops (aka bacon flavored steak), roasts, hams, sausage, hocks, fat and bones if you want them... the kitchen becomes creative on nights when you choose the cuts you don't usually buy, but also provides simplicity when you need it most -- bacon and red wine for dinner when that is just exactly what the doctor ordered, a pork chop fried in a cast iron when you need a six minute lunch, a sausage patty on toast with a fried egg to get you out the door.
A meat share is also the best way to ensure that farmers like us can keep farming like we do. By utilizing the entire animal, you show the ultimate respect to the pig and their life.
Our prices are set at $6.50 per pound hanging weight for halves and wholes, and quarters are a flat fee of $475. The beauty of this is you're getting all of the cuts of the hog at one wholesale price. You will pay the butcher their fees directly and separately -- typically around another $1 per pound, but varies with your cut instructions. Halves and wholes get to pick their cut and wrap specifications (things like -- how thick do you want your pork chops? Do you want your ham smoked or fresh? Pepper or regular bacon?), quarters get a standard cut sheet.
Then you pick up your meat, and buying pork at the grocery store is a thing of the past.
And THEN, you get to feed everyone around your table knowing you made the best choice for the land, for the animal, for the farmer, for your health, your wallet, and your peace of mind.
