The world has a lot to say about what makes a girl beautiful, valuable, or worthy of attention.
From a young age, our daughters are surrounded by messages telling them how they should look, how they should dress, how they should move, and what they need to do to be noticed or celebrated. So much emphasis is placed on physical appearance, attractiveness, popularity, and performance.
But as parents, we have the responsibility and the privilege of teaching our daughters a different truth. Their bodies were never created for the world's approval. They were created for God's glory.
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." — 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
I love what this scripture teaches us. Our bodies are not something to be ashamed of, nor are they something to use simply to gain attention or acceptance. They are beautifully and intentionally created by God, and even the way we use them can be an act of worship.
This is one of the things I treasure so deeply about worship dance.
Dance requires discipline, dedication, strength, grace, and sacrifice. But when dance becomes worship, it teaches something even greater. It teaches our daughters that their gifts are not about being better than someone else, earning applause, or standing in the spotlight. It's about laying those gifts at the feet of Jesus.
It teaches them that their movements can be an offering. That their strength can glorify God. That their bodies can express what their hearts sometimes cannot put into words.
And perhaps most importantly, it teaches them that their worth isn't measured by how they look, how they perform, or how much attention they receive. Their identity is found in Christ.
There is nothing wrong with developing talent, working hard, or striving for excellence. But what a beautiful thing when we teach our children that excellence doesn't have to be driven by competition or comparison. It can be driven by a desire to honor the One who gave them their gifts in the first place.
We cannot completely shield our daughters from the messages of this world, but we can raise them to recognize a greater truth. We can teach them to honor God with their bodies, guard their hearts, and worship Him with their whole being.
That's why events like Rings True, presented by Little Beloveds Dance Company, are so special to me.
This Christmas, these girls have the opportunity to share something far greater than a dance performance. They have the opportunity to minister through movement, tell the story of Jesus, and remind others of the true reason we celebrate.
My prayer is that every girl who steps onto that stage knows she isn't there to be admired, compared, or applauded for her appearance. She is there to glorify her Creator.
And my prayer for those watching is that they see beyond the choreography and beautiful costumes and experience the heart of worship behind it all.
May we raise a generation of girls who know that being seen by the world will never compare to being known and loved by God. ❤️
I hope you'll join us for Rings True this Christmas. Come experience what happens when dance becomes worship and every movement points back to Jesus.
