In an incredible first, Col d'Orcia, icon of Brunello di Montalcino, has won Wine Enthusiast’s inaugural Wine Star Environmental Advocate of the Year award! 🏆
⭐️ This newly introduced category shines a light on those who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to sustainability — something Col d’Orcia’s proprietors, Count Francesco Marone Cinzano and his son, Santiago, thoroughly embody.
⭐️ As standard bearers in Montalcino, Col d’Orcia has a boundless commitment to their certified organic land, which is undergoing targeted conversion to biodynamic farming. Their world-class winemaking is furthered through research on clonal selection, cover crop experimentation, erosion control, and carbon footprint reduction, in partnership with the University of Florence.
⭐️ Under the leadership of Count Cinzano and Santiago, the estate has become a model for , , and environmental stewardship. Among their other notable environmental accomplishments, Col d’Orcia has earned the EQUALITAS Sustainable Winery certification and the distinguished SNAIL Award from Slow Wine.
