In tonight’s episode of “who’s that goat?!”, the lady on the right has come to visit my Billy goats.

My neighbor’s Pygmy goats simply do not respect my corral panels.

The poor donkeys are trapped by raising flood waters and cannot make it to their food!

And by flood waters, I mean the spillwaw behind the looks (to the left) and the mud pit which every gate becomes (to the right). And by trapped, I mean they’re too dainty to get their feet wet or muddy.

The horses and the goats showed no hesitation.

After realizing the horses were feasting on grain, they braved the evil mud pit of their own creation and moseyed on up for dinner.

Ordered a couple of signs.
Between my birds being dumb and the neighbor’s cows ignoring his fence, it’s not exactly wise for people to come flying around the curve at 15 over the limit, so I’m hoping this helps out a bit.

The lutalyse injection, following the break in by the neighbor’s cute but wrong breed billy goat, failed on Eris. She’s due in a few days, so I’m building her a pen for her to kid in. Almost done. So much work crawling around to make sure the babies won’t be able to slip through the bottom.

Bonus points to me for recycling the “tree house” portion of the kiddo’s swing set.
The top has been conscripted by the peahens as a nest for 3 years running. And there is a hen in it looking over a couple of eggs as I type this.
I hope the goats like their upstairs neighbors.

The peacocks have noticed a slight breeze today

As was pointed out by someone this week, I’d initially stated that I didn’t intend to post political content here.

The current political climate in the is now, very unexpectedly, hostile and damaging to US agriculture and farming. And I’m not talking minor things, I’m talking about the ability for farms to continue to operate. I hope this is a short lived phenomenon, though I expect it to have long lasting impacts.

As a result, I am now likely to comment on such actions which directly impact farmers. I don’t at all intend to be broad in those comments and potential posts. But it would be against my own self interest and that of many I care about to simply remain silent on such topics and passively accept the damage they are responsible for to US farmers.

I look forward to the day when this stops being something which is needed, and we can go back to mildly suffering through the normal ebb and flow of US politics as it relates to agriculture.

We’ve had a rough time with our geese and hatchlings. Between poor nest management by the mamas and black rat snakes eating the babies, we just can’t seem to replenish our aging flock.

So this year, a maniacal focus on incubation. 100 eggs in the incubator.

2 laid down and internally pipping. 5 more laid down and progressing. I just added my last 10 eggs before lock down.

17 other eggs already culled. That’s less than 1/3 of the initial two dozen making it to lock down. And I don’t expect more than a couple of this seven to make it into the brooder.
My geese are tough to get to adulthood.

Kicked a possum out of the feed shed.
The guineas had opinions. Chased him all the way off the property.

It’s more obvious in live motion, as they are stretching and wriggling, but there are at least 16 adult peacocks (about 40% of the flock) in this photo, up in the top of the pine tree.

During this time between seasons, when the boys have dropped and not yet regrown their tails, and there is no mating competition, they all tend to group together at night.
Once the boys have tails again to try to keep pristine, they start spreading out around the yard and have their own chosen territorial perches to sleep on at night, while the girls and yearlings still tend to cluster together.
