Hundred Acre Wood Farm & Sanctuary

Hundred Acre Wood Farm & Sanctuary A lovely, welcoming farm and sanctuary, with forests and rolling pastures that are home to cattle, goats, ducks, chickens, pigs and a draft pony.

The Hundred Acre Wood Farm & Sanctuary is a dream come true. As a college student at Duke in the seventies, Jim D***s felt 'called' to farming. The summer before starting medical school at Duke, he worked on a farm just north of Durham, where he had his first kitchen garden. Though he practiced medicine for almost 30 years, he never lost sight of his dream to farm. Jim says that Wendell Berry, who

m he began reading in medical school, has inspired him. He considers farming a healing practice, just like good medicine. His passion in life is growing food naturally and creating a sustainable and fertile farm. He retired from medicine to farm full time in 2008. Now his "morning rounds" consists of caring for a diverse away of contented creatures: chickens, goats, pigs, cattle, ducks and a draft pony. He named his farm after the Hundred Acre Wood featured in the Winnie-the-Pooh stories by AA Milne. Visitors get to meet the likes of Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, Owl, Tigger, Kanga, and Roo, amongst others, who make his farm home. Jim wants to create a sanctuary on his farm for wildlife, livestock, and the humans who visit. He offers tours and individual day retreats at the farm. His cattle are Animal Welfare Approved, and sometimes he sells farm-raised meat (beef, goat, pork) to friends and visitors. Please come visit!
