A great Bordeaux Plus, evening! The theme for the evening was a 2005 vintage Bordeaux lineup; one of the best vintages to open right now (in their 20-year window).
To begin, and in between, we managed some great "intermezo" wines: a Bordeaux Blanc, an Austrian Gruner Veltliner, and a Chassagne-Montrachet rouge.
Great wines, good people make for an excellent evening.

Colgin Tasting about a month ago with one cool chic, Danielle Aita (of and from Colgin, of course). This woman knows her s**t and is too cool to boot. Exceptional wines, and presented as such!
Look forward to seeing her either in Napa or at Z's Corner at the Round Rock Wine Bar.
The wines:
The 2021 vintage was one of the best vintages in California, a "fresher" 2016, if i might say. The wines can be had now or be put away for a couple of decades. The pleasant surprise was the Jubilation 2022. Although not a big fan of that vintage, the Colgin folks made this wine work. I expect to see this wine being offered in fine restaurants.
A very pleasant afternoon.

WSET III class this week with Daniella DaSuta; the topic - Sparkling Wines. While Daniella opened an excellent Le Mesnil Blanc du Blanc NV Grand Cru for us to try and understand, Huan Nguyen provided the icing on the cake, a Bollinger Grand Année.
We closed the class with Roederer Estate NV Brut from Anderson Valley, a Raventos i Blanc, Banc du Blanc 2022 and a Marenco Moscato D'Asti 2022.

Friday evening (April 25th) tasting lineup. The theme is a vintage theme with 2015 wines from Bordeaux. 2015 was one of those exceptional vintages where the wines came out excellent. We will be showing the wines with 10 years of age in the bottle - a great window to these predominantly left-bank wines.
For the sake of good comparison, we will add a right-bank wine to the mix, one that shows exceptional promise.
- Ch Mangot Todeschini, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
- Château Talbot, Saint-Julien.
- Brane Cantenac, Margaux.
- La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou, Saint-Julien.
- Château Clauzet, Saint-Estèphe.
- Château Clarke, Vin de Bordeaux.
Should we get a good turnout, we shall add a Pauillac and/or a Pessac-Léognan to the mix.

And there was some decent drinking at the Round Rock Wine Bar.
Started off with a very good Corton Grand Cru; silky smooth s**t, yet with great fruit showing in the palate.
The guests looked like they had enough wine and cheese - time to "wake up" (as one guest put it).
So we compared two exceptionally well-made Bordeaux wines, and to boot, made in two exceptionally good vintages.
Now, that is an evening that ends with very little talking.

A great lunch with a wonderful lady, Margaux Lemma, of Purple Hands Winery from Oregon. One of the coolest oenophiles i have had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with; about wines, vineyards, appellation specifics, family, etc, etc.
To add, the Chardonnay are a welcome addition to the already renowned Pinot Noir this Winery/Vineyard makes.
For the most part, we tasted the 2022 vintage, their current release. However, she brought a 2023 Lone Oak Ranch Vineyard and a 2018 Latchkey Vineyard Chardonnay.
Look forward to visiting Margaux and Purple Hands later this year.

A wonderful tasting of Colgin wines with Danielle Aita, a Napa Valley factoid and afficionado - the woman knows her s**t!!. The 2021 is a spectacular vintage; in my opinion, among the top five vintages in more than two decades. The wines, although not cheap, are fabulous. Value-for-money, the Jubilation 2021 and 2022 are worth the price.
