And yet another wonderful evening. Opened some great stuff at the Round Rock Wine Bar. Every bottle opened up well, in fact way better than expected.
The Muga Rioja Gran Reserva was fruit-muted at the beginning, but with a decent decant, turned out splendid. The Penfolds 389 was a tad soft on the vibrant (Shiraz) character it is known for, but the wine drank well, regardless. The Cava was splendid, and Titziano Chianti Classico opened up much better than many a Chianti Classico from that vintage.

A wine evening (what else!) at the Round Rock Wine Bar with Keri, Jeff, Ashley, and Brett.

Joseph Drouhin Cote de Nuits Villages, 2011.
Merry Edwards Pinot Noir, Coopersmith, Russian River Valley, 2015.
Ferraton Père & Fils, 'Le Parvis' CnDP, 2017.
All the wines opened very well, but the Merry Edwards stole the show.

It was a Pinot Noir, Gamay evening - good, decent, Southern Burgundy.
We were drinking away with good friends who have been patrons for a long time; good people who have stood by us.
We'll do this for a day or two more.....
We are at the tail end of High Country Market Bistro and Gastropub as we know it. In a week or so, we'll be starting a new chapter - a wine and spirits store and a private wine club "speak-easy" in Round Rock, TX.

A Wine Dinner at the Gill's, with the dinner menu at the fantasy of our host, Madam Tina Gill; of course, credit is due to Indy Gill for bringing out his better- half's cuisine to the table. Rest assured, given that the food and the venue were outstanding, all the guests truly bettered the evening.

last week. The theme was Super-Tuscans, and stayed true till a Vega Sicilia challenge was thrown. We had to oblige!
A great lineup.
- Poggio Al Tesoro 'Il Seggio' Bolgheri Superiore, 2020.
- Isole e Olena 'Cepparello' Toscana IGT, 2019.
- Aia Vecchia 'Sor Ugo' Bolgheri Superiore, 2021.
- Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5°, Ribera del Duero, 2016.
Every wine in this lineup was part and parcel of a great vintage.
Tuscany has had five stellar vintages - 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021; and where 2016 and 2021 are special for collectors. However, the 2019 and 2020 were very clean, linear, long and full of "French" complexity
Spain was similar, where the 2016 vintage was and is revered.

Château Pavie tasting with Didier Adam (from Château Pavie) and Edward Cannan (Joanne-US, Bordeaux distributors and negociant for Château Pavie).
Château Pavie also owns Arômes de Pavie (their 2nd wine) and Château Monbousquet. The Pavie house makes some of the best wines from the right bank in Saint-Emilion. To add, the terroir is fantastic - rolling hills among some of the most notable neighbors.
