This season’s bounty is going strong! We’ve got peppers, peppers, and more peppers. And many other things, but definitely peppers 😆. It’s a great time to stop at the farm stand to shop the biggest variety of veg we’ll have all season!

It’s watermelon season! Join me as I harvest our first melons of the season. The excitement of this type of harvest is what keeps me going. It’s really so fun to find these after growing them for a few months. And yes, Madonna s new album is what I listen to when I pick your vegetables in the morning.

July photo dump, pt. 2

1 - We are growing our own corn again this year, which I know our customers are very excited about!

2 - Growing corn does come with a few complications, though… one of which is birds. They love to peck the tips of the ears, which can make the corn unmarketable. So, I decided to try a new bird management tactic that I read about over the winter. As you’ll see in the video, we installed two air dancers in our corn field. I think you can probably tell I’m already losing it, but call me crazy… they seem to be working!🤞

3 - Our cherry tomatoes are really starting to produce. I know they taste amazing, but I’m always amazed at how beautiful the mix of colors and shapes is. They might be one of the prettiest crops we grow.

4 - We also hosted a volunteer group of about 25 people to harvest surplus blueberries. Together, they harvested 172 lbs of blueberries that were delivered to four different food banks in the area. We would love to do more events like this in the future, so keep your eyes out if you’d ever like to volunteer!

5 and 6 - Our pumpkins, winter squash, and watermelon fields have filled in beautifully. Expect to see watermelon in mid-August and pumpkins and winter squash starting in September!

7 - Lastly, we planted one of our high tunnels with a buckwheat cover crop this summer. Buckwheat is great at outcompeting weeds, adding organic matter to our soil, and attracting lots of pollinators. It’s also just beautiful to look at. This will be mowed down soon, and the tunnel will be prepped for fall greens.

July photo dump, pt. 1

The beginning of July looked a little different this year.

1- We spent several days working through the wildfire smoke. Farming means being outside most of the day, so smoky days add another challenge to an already demanding season.

2 - Cyclospora also became a huge topic of conversation around fresh produce. We’ve seen so many new faces at the farm because of it, and I just want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who has chosen to support us and trust us to safely grow your food. It truly means more than you know.

3 - One of my favorite parts of the month was having friends from college come visit for a few days. July can be the point in the season where I’m running on empty, and spending time with people who refill my cup was exactly what I needed. They’re also featured in a few of my favorite photos from the month, wandering through the cherry tomato rows.

4 - In true July fashion, one of our cultivating tractors broke down. She may not look like she’s in the best shape in this photo, but new parts have been ordered, and she’s well on her way to recovery.

5 - We also planted our fall carrots! This year I experimented with flame weeding the beds before the carrots germinated. The idea is to eliminate the first flush of weeds with the torch just before the carrots emerge, giving the carrots a head start. So far, it looks like a success!

6 - And finally… tomato season is here. The plants are beautiful, the harvest is abundant, and it’s officially caprese season.

Happy July 4! 🇺🇸 We’ll be open with abbreviated hours on Saturday, July 4. We’ll open at 10:00 AM as usual and close early at 2:00 PM.

Our Pick-Your-Own blueberries will follow the same holiday hours, so be sure to stop by before 2:00 PM!

Stop in before your holiday celebrations to pick up fresh pies, homemade bread, local cheese, tomatoes, salad greens, zucchini, and more. We look forward to seeing you, and hope you have a safe and happy Independence Day!

This color can only mean one thing… 🫐 Blueberry season is here!

Our Pick-Your-Own blueberries open this Saturday, July 4th, and we couldn’t be more excited. The crop is looking beautiful this year, and so far the berries are looking bigger than we’ve seen in years!

We’re also making a few changes to our schedule this season. Pick-Your-Own will now be open Tuesday–Sunday from 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Want to beat the heat? Join us during our self-serve early picking hours from 8:00–9:30 AM. A scale will be set up outside the farm stand so you can weigh your berries and pay on your own before heading out.

Our farm stand is open Tuesday–Sunday from 10:00 AM–5:30 PM, so if you’re stopping by after 10, you can pick your berries and then browse everything else we have to offer.

It’s shaping up to be a fantastic blueberry season, with plenty of berries for everyone. Come spend some time in the field, stock up for fresh eating, baking, and freezing, and enjoy one of the sweetest parts of summer.
