Who’s next on meet the herd?

It’s Poppy!

Poppy is a big, beautiful, Brown Swiss. She’s every bit of 2100 pounds. She’s the biggest cow we have. This cow is a jersey personality inside the body of brown Swiss 😂

She’s the second most in your pocket cow we have on this property. She’ll do anything for a cookie, she’s not a cow she is a dog. Lol.

This cow is brilliant, she knows her name, and if you want her moved out of the way she has to want to be moved or it’s not happening.

She’s best friends with Millie, and her and Prize are also besties. Between the two of them they keep the herd in line. She is a gentle giant. You can do anything to this cow and she is completely unphased. I love her for that. She gives a lot of milk at her peek!

Alongside prize and Millie she is also a cow whose milk hits that can and into your jars twice a day!

We love our poppy so much! 💕

Fun fact about Brown Swiss: brown Swiss were originally bred as a triple purpose animal: meat, dairy, and pulling work.

Next up on meet the girls is….

Millie bug 🐞

This sweet girl was one of our first cows also, she is a jersey cow. This girl has a wonderful temperament, in this picture she’s trying to get the cookie out of my hand. Millie is a steady eddy, she knows her routine, and does her job well. There could be a hail storm, a tornado, trees flying everywhere and this cow will be up there to be milked when it’s time 😂

With that though comes a strong hate for change. The first day we brought her home it took us 3 hours of working and handling her to get her in the stanchion to be milked. When we redone our milking set up she was NOT having it, took about an hour to get her back in there. She hates change, but I think a lot of us can relate to Millie.

When she’s in “trouble” (as if she ever gets in trouble) we use her full name “Mildred” 😂

She’s best friends with her milking buddy Poppy. You can almost always catch those two together. They’re like peanut butter and jelly.

We love our Millie girl. 💕

Fun fact about Jersey cows: The breed comes from the Island of Jersey in the English Channel, between England and France!

‼️ANNOUNCEMENT‼️

Hey guys! I am officially back in the Downtown Corner Market in forth smith! A couple of people have said some things about the milk being in jugs, and that’s simply because of the lack of jars that were returned my last time dropping here!

So today I brought jugs and jars, if you guys will return the jars I don’t mind to bring the milk in jars, I prefer it!

All of that to say, I am happy to be back here at the downtown corner market and I hope you’ll come on down and support the farm and see all the wonderful things they’re doing here! Thank you for your support

Edit to add: biscoff truffles are gone 🎉 I still have some of the pumpkin Oreo cookies and oatmeal cream pies!

I’ve got the milk crate stocked up with goodies and ice packs for the day! Remember you don’t have to be a milk customer to buy from my porch! I already had some sweet customers yesterday, I am having the best time with this little cooler! 💕

You guys, cows are so much smarter than they get credit for! Me and my husband always have to check our emotions before going to milk the girls. They react to how you’re acting!

Did you know, cows can remember faces?

They recognize individual people. Cows can learn to distinguish familiar humans from strangers, using facial features along with voices, smells, and the way someone moves.

They have long-lasting memories. Cows can remember learned information and familiar individuals over extended periods!

They remember how you treat them. A cow that regularly receives gentle handling may approach you more readily, while one that has experienced frightening handling may become wary of you.

They recognize their favorite people. Some cows show clear preferences for particular caretakers and may approach them, relax around them, or seek attention.

They can read emotions and body language. They respond to human behavior and can distinguish between different types of handling.

Cows are incredible creatures, gentle giants if I dare. They will return behavior that’s reciprocated to them. I’m still waiting for the day they start feeding me cookies every once in awhile with how many they get… 😂🤭

I love this job and always remember to check your emotions before checking cows 😉

“You let your 5 year old help you?”

I sure do! And truthfully he’s better at it than some adults 🫣 I only have to show him, and tell him once. He pays attention well, he watches me and his daddy very intently. He remembers things. He asks questions before assuming/doing. He makes smart choices, and he’s only 5. We’ve stressed the importance of stewarding what God has given us well. And my boys are learning it at a very young age. I’m thankful for the opportunity God has given me to steward them well, and teach them to steward our land and animals well! ☺️

What a God, what a God.

Everyday, twice a day, I am in awe of what the Lord has blessed me with.

Tonight the sunset is just stunning and it’s just a beautiful reminder of what a God we serve. Thank you, Lord for choosing me to steward this land, these animals.

What a God, what a life.

If this is what the view I get to see everyday, I can’t begin to fathom what Heaven will be like.
