After a successful maple syrup season (we produced a record, for us, 73 gallons), it is time to focus on the bees. The weather here in Rumford has been on the chilly side for the past weeks, so the bees haven’t been able to get out to forage and not much has been blooming either. But today we have some warmth and sunshine!

It’s honey harvest time! After removing the frames of honey from the hives, we remove the wax cappings from each frame. Then the frames go for a spin in the extractor. Bottling will take place in a week or so after the air bubbles rise to the surface of the pails of honey.
This spring/summer harvest isn’t the best we have had in our 12 years of beekeeping, but it’s not bad.

STICKNEY’S WINTER WOODLAND WALKING TRAILS ARE NOW OPEN!
Bob and I have spent the past couple of days packing and grooming our walking trails. There is just one short section that we haven’t gotten but will try to in the next day or too. We have some warming temperatures coming in the next several days, so the trails may get a little soft, in which case we highly recommend snowshoes so you don’t make “post holes” and risk injury to yourself!
