Paul Watson Greenhouses

Paul Watson Greenhouses We are a family-run greenhouse & nursery in Rush, NY. We grow annuals, perennials, herbs, hanging baskets & more.

We've been vendors at the Rochester Public Market for many years.

We’re sorry, but we will not be open for the 2023 season. Hopefully, we’ll be back for next year. Thank you all for your support!

When it rains, it pours...
First off, THANK YOU to all that have come out & provided loving homes for our plants.
We've had an interesting winter. In February, Paul was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He's feeling much better now & we're hopeful that he'll make a full recovery. Due to the medications he's on, he can't be in hot greenhouses or do any heavy lifting for the time being.
We've also had family illness & (currently) our 100 lb. labradoodle, Petey, is injured & needing around the clock care.
We really are the epitome of a small business. Most of year, it's just the two of us. We weren't prepared for this storm.
All that being said, we've had to drastically cut back what we're growing for this season. We will have some perennials, houseplants & succulents, but nowhere near our usual selection.
We're planning on being at the Rochester Public Market on Saturdays & (maybe) Thursdays starting Mother's Day weekend.
We won't be able to have regular hours at the farm this year. We will be welcoming visitors, but we're going to ask that you call or text first to a) make sure someone is available & b) make sure we have what you're looking for.
Again, THANK YOU! for all of the support. We are planning on having things back to normal, with regular hours at the farm , next year.

Usually, at this time of year, we’d be selling at the RPM garage sales on Sundays. They’ll be starting next week, but in the mean time, our farm is located 5 minutes from the East Avon flea market. When you’ve gotten gotten your fill of good junk, stop on by.
We’re open from 9-5. If you’d like to stop earlier or later(when it’s cooler), just give us a call at (585)615-7916.

The short version: we will not be at the Rochester Public Market Saturday, July 4th.
We will be open at the farm from 9-5.
The longer version: the weather is making life very difficult for us at the moment. It’s summer; of course it’s going to be hot. What’s been unusual this year is the number of very low humidity days coupled with a rain fall deficit. Yesterday afternoon, it was 92 degrees with 27% relative humidity & a pleasant breeze. Any one of those 3 conditions would dry potted plants right out; together, it seemed impossible to get enough water out fast enough. We been averaging about 35 hours a day of hand watering off 2 wells & the plants still want more.
Going to market for 1 day is really a 4 day project.
Day 1: Water as much as is humanly possible so that we can work on pulling plants the next day.
Day 2: Pull, clean, water & load plants for market. Generally, each plant is picked out individually & primped & preened. With 3 of us working on it, we’re happy if we get done by midnight.
Day 3: Market, while someone at home is catching up on the watering that didn’t get done do to loading.
Day 4: Unload, rewater & put away what didn’t sell the day before.
With the current weather, we just don’t have enough hands or hours in the day to do market & keep everything at home healthy & happy.
We have many gorgeous perennials at the moment; some had been running a little late this year. They’ve all seemed to have caught up over the last couple of weeks!
Come see us at the farm; we’re open everyday from 9-5. If you’d like to come earlier or later (when it’s cooler), just give us a call @ (585)615-7916.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, due to the beautiful, sunny, dry weather we will not be at the Rochester Public Market Thursday, July 2nd.
At this point, we’re not sure about Saturday. If we can find a way to keep everything watered & be there, we will be there!
We’re still open everyday, including Saturday the 4th, at the farm from 9-5.
Thanks!

We found our first black swallowtail butterfly caterpillars of the season yesterday. These guys are on dill, but they’ll also use fennel, parsley or rue as host plants. The adults aren’t nearly as picky about nectar sources.
Usually, the monarchs are a couple of weeks behind the swallowtails. Both types of milkweed, asclepias tuberosa and asclepias incarnata, are starting to bloom. These serve as a food source for both butterflies & caterpillars.

Unfortunately, we won’t be going to the Rochester Public Market tomorrow, Saturday June 27th due to the (potential) weather. Neither the plants nor the people enjoy being battered by thunderstorms while at market.
We are open at the farm everyday from 9-5. If you’d like to come out earlier or later than that, please just give a call first @ (585)615-7916. It’s no problem; we (literally) live here.
It also probably a good time to mention that most of our stock, at this time of year, is outside. We’re definitely “a keep an eye to the the sky” type of place.
Thanks!

We’re sorry to say, but we won’t be at the Rochester Public Market tomorrow, Thursday June 25th. Paul will be there Saturday & we’re still open at home every day from 9-5.
If you’re looking for something specific, please give a call/text or email & he’ll be happy to bring it for you.
We got a little rain (.25”), but just not enough to get caught up. It’s still very dry & we’ll keep watering!
Thanks!

Mother Nature isn’t being kind (to potted plants). Due to the gorgeous, dry weather we we’ll not be at the Rochester Public Market tomorrow, Thursday June 18th. We just have too many thirsty plants to take care of.
Paul will be there on Saturday & we’re open at the farm everyday from 9-5. If you’d like him to bring anything special, just give him a call, text, email etc.
Thanks!
