One of our heifers got kept back and is now our daughter, Alicia's, family milk cow. Follow their page if you want to see some small scale cheese making here in the future 😊

Meet Ariel and her calf Arrow. Ariel is a purebred jersey. When my parents sold the milking cows and heifers two and a half years ago, Ariel was only a few weeks old, and she was sick, so she couldn't go through the sale. I'm so thankful she got kept back because we brought her home and raised her with our Hereford calf, Lollipop, and the sheep. She was my one continuing link to the dairy industry that I felt like I had lost.
We really weren't sure what we were going to do when she calved in. Was she going to stand quietly to be milked? Was she going to try and kick the snot out of me? Was I going to be able to handle milking a cow even with three kids running around? Ariel proved to be the best milk cow we could have asked for. She comes into her stall and stands quietly while I milk, even with kids running rampant all around.
She has provided our family and others with so much milk already in only a month since calving in. I finally got my cheese kits ordered, and I'm excited to try my hand at making cheese, especially those fresh cheese curds I've been missing for the last couple years!

It's National Milk Day and the start of June Dairy Month 🥛

I've missed writing up posts and doing videos for you about dairy farming. I started this page in 2013 so this is the first time in 10 years I won't be doing any June Dairy Month posts.

Even though we are no longer a part of the dairy industry, we will continue to support it with consuming milk, cheese, ice cream, and all the other delicious dairy products produced.

Thank you Dairy Farmers! Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed 🩷
