Good morning everyone! Breeding season is about to kick off, usually during this time our girls will naturally produce just a little less due to their bodies telling them to get ready for the next pregnancy. All this means for you is a little more patience to fill a milk order ๐Ÿ˜Š
Everyone have a beautiful day!

On to the next section ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ rotational grazing does not mean grazing to the ground. There is already erosion on this section and having them take it down to 2 inches everywhere would not help correct that. Instead by leaving trampled grass it will slow water and feed the soil.

Fun facts about Kikos ๐Ÿ

The appropriately named Kiko goat was purpose-bred in New Zealand for meat production โ€“ the Maori word โ€œkikoโ€ meaning flesh or meat. The developers of the breed were Garrick and Anne Batten of Nelson in the northern South Island, and they developed the Kiko from feral goats that had been liberated or had escaped over the last hundred years or so of European settlement. These feral goats could be found in many places throughout the country, and although they were hardy, they were relatively small and produced little meat or milk.

The Kiko breed was established by crossbreeding selected feral does with Anglo-Nubian, Toggenburg and Saanen bucks, with further cross-breeding in the second and third generations. After four generations of selective breeding โ€“ selection being on the grounds of survivability and growth rate in a hill country environment โ€“ a dramatic improvement in liveweight and animal performance was achieved. By 1986 the Kiko breed was established and the herd was closed to further cross-breeding.

Within New Zealand, control of the breed has remained with the original developers. However, Kikos were exported to the United States in the 1990s, and there are now a number of enthusiastic breeders of Kikos in that country.

Fun fact about Lamanchas ๐Ÿ

โ€œThe LaMancha goat originated in Oregon by Mrs. Eula Frey from short-eared goats of a type found not only in LaMancha, but throughout Spain. It has excellent dairy temperament and is an all-around sturdy animal that can withstand a great deal of hardship and still produce. Through official testing this breed has established itself in milk production with high butterfatโ€ https://breeds.okstate.edu/goats/lamancha-goats
