When the meteorologist says “frigid temps, historic snowfall, blizzard conditions, STAY INSIDE."

Farmers, ranchers, livestock families everywhere…
hear something different.

We hear it's feeding time.
We hear frozen water to bust.
We hear stalls to bed, cattle, horses and animals to check, hay to be fed out... animals are counting on us.

Storms don’t pause responsibility.
And livestock doesn’t care what the forecast says.

While the world hunkers down, we layer up.
While roads close, chores still call.
While the wind howls, we show up.

BECAUSE WE HAVE TO!!

Stay safe out there!
Your animals don’t know it’s a blizzard; they just know you’re coming. 🤍❄️🐂

Refusing to treat a sick animal with any conventional options when holistic isn’t working is straight out inhumane.

Use the antibiotics!

Just because you don’t want to use them on your livestock doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them on your livestock.

Even organic farming *can* use medications on their livestock-but those stock have to leave the organic farm and enter the commercial market.

Herbal and natural treatments are great-they have their place-
BUT when they aren’t working and your animal needs treatment—
GIVE them the medicine.

It’s not fair to avoid treatment just because it makes you feel better or whatever.

It doesn’t make your product “superior”.

Withdrawal times are a thing.
They exist for a reason.

I’d rather consume meat or milk from livestock that have been treated and still alive and healthy after the withdrawal times than to let that animal suffer and/or die.

Because that’s what happens.
Your animals don’t feel better.
They suffer while you refuse to use a treatment that is made for the issue they have.
They suffer and either have lifelong issues from your refusal to treat or they die.

Your livestock can’t tell you how they feel with words. But they absolutely tell you how they feel when you watch them.
If you try holistic and it doesn’t get anywhere-don’t force them to suffer because of your wants.

They depend on you to keep the healthy.

And sometimes that’s with conventional treatments.

Have a vet relationship.
Use that relationship.
Run over treatments with them.
Use the antibiotics.

Big day here Sunday. Last weekend The Barbed Heart Ranch calves got their final calf vaccines and this weekend they got neutered. We typically neuter in November or December when the temperatures start falling. This protects our calves from flys and bacterial infections they can be prone to in warmer months. All the calves are back with their mommas enjoying some silage bales we made fresh this summer. They will be on to their winter pasture where they will eat and grow until they move onto fresh grass in the spring.
