Today is day 100 since she first laid hands on Joe and Star. They start the week a deep red mahogany but I fear she will wash them to a faded pink by the end of the week!

I initially I broke Buck and Bright to drive single but quickly teamed them to get them presentable for an event. Today was Bucks first time being hitched single in eight months and first time using the britchen ever. He did fine but definitely needs work before he will be ready for prime time. He had no issues being hitched with the singletree but wasn't sure about the britchen and trace chains jingling when not hitched. Bright being the neigh would usually transition to single easier but investing the time into Buck will improve the team more. Many people ask about a britchen so I tried to get some photos of it. If you are going to work a single I highly recommend a britchen. It helps keep the yoke in place. It helps keep them from stepping out of the trace chains. It carries the trace chains when not hitched. This britchen uses two spring hooks with the spring removed to carry the chains. While it works perfectly, using a spider to replace one of the back rings may be a little more elegant. Some britchens use one back ring but using two that flank the hooks of the animal will make the britchen more stable.
