I’ve been advertising and selling Mangelista/Berkshire pigs through my locker, WEST RIVER MEATS, in Rutland. I’ve sold 32 of them in the last 3 weeks and people are going nuts over them!!
What’s the difference you ask? Well I took a few pictures to show you.
Before I start I want everyone to know that I am 100% in favor of the mass production of confinement pigs to feed the masses, however I want to show you an option.
The Mangelista pig is referred to as the Kobé of pork and the Berkshire is noted for its dark red meat and sweet butter like fat. Now you mix the 2 together and, WALLA!! You’ve got the best eating pork around.
I’ll send a few pictures.
The dark red, buttery fat, well marbled pork are from Mangelistas
The no fat, pale gray meat is from a confinement set up.
Do they yield the same? No, the Mangelista pork has much more fat but is well worth the yield loss, I promise!!
