Years ago (20+ years maybe!) we created this graphic of harness parts to help beginner carriage drivers learn some of the colloquial terms for those parts. Over the years we have received numerous requests from people all over the country, to allow them to use it in one manner or another. Tonight, we received a most interesting email: a request to publish this image in the pages of a journal, written by a 90 year old man, reminiscing about his grandfather's use of draft horses on their dairy farm in the 1930's. The house his grandfather purchased at the turn of the last century, became an historic museum in the 1980's. He promises to call us tomorrow to talk about horses, farming, and a way of life we have so stubbornly held on to for so long. Simply put, it is in our DNA to strive to keep this horse culture, our horse culture, relevant. Maybe this way, it won't be completely lost to a future generation that will have no active memories of it.
