🐦🌿 A NEW Birdify visitor at Heatons Acres!

This morning we had the sweetest little visitor at our feeder — a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak! 😍

She may not have the bold coloring of the male, but I think she is absolutely beautiful. 🤎🤍

A few fun facts about our newest little friend:

🌿 Female Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are mostly brown and streaked, while the males have that gorgeous black-and-white coloring with the rosy-red patch on their chest.

🌿 Their big, cone-shaped bills are perfect for cracking open seeds — which explains why she was right at our feeder!

🌿 They enjoy seeds, berries, fruits and insects.

🌿 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are migratory, so getting to see one stop by Heatons Acres makes her visit extra special. 🥰

I am already having WAY too much fun seeing who shows up on our Birdfy. 😂🐦

There's just something so special about slowing down and getting a little glimpse into the beautiful wildlife right outside our door.

Well, East Tennessee… here’s our old wives’ tale winter prediction! 🍂🥄❄️

They say if you cut open a persimmon seed and find a spoon, it means we’re in for a snowy winter. ❄️

So naturally, we had to check ours…

And y’all… ALL NINE were spoons! 😳🥄🥄🥄

Now, is this actually predicting the weather? Probably not. 😂 But you know we had to play along with the old-timers’ tradition!

So tell us… what did your persimmon seeds look like this year?! 👀

Are we in for a snowy winter here in East Tennessee?! ❄️

We bought a quart of fresh cream from our goat milk provider, and I couldn't let it just sit in the fridge. 😂

So today we put it to work!

🧈 About 6 oz of homemade salted butter

🌿 A full pint of homemade ranch dressing made with the leftover buttermilk

And… we STILL have some cream left! 👀

That's probably my favorite part of homesteading—figuring out how to take one simple ingredient and turn it into something useful (and delicious!) instead of letting anything go to waste.

Now I need your help…

What should we make with the rest of the cream? 👇🏻

I'm already thinking pumpkin spice creamer… 🎃☕️ but I'm open to suggestions!

🎂🩷 The BEST birthday gift! My sweet husband got me a birdify for my birthday and.....

This morning, I got my very first visitor! 🐦🌿

A sweet little female House Finch came by… and then came back again… and again throughout the day. And honestly, I could watch this little girl all day long. 🥹

I’ve always had such a love for the birds that visit our little piece of paradise, so having the chance to actually watch them up close like this is pretty much a dream come true.

I have a feeling this is going to become one of my favorite parts of life here at Heatons Acres — slowing down, looking out the window, and seeing who decided to stop by. 🤎

Just caught this little guy hanging out in the garden today. ❤️

One of my favorite things about living out here is that there’s always something to see if you slow down long enough to notice it.

🍓🍦 Breakfast ice cream?!

Okay... it's basically a smoothie that's been frozen! 😂

With a few picky eaters in the house, I've learned to get creative. This is one of my favorite ways to get some good nutrition into breakfast while giving the kids something they actually get excited about.

And it's made at home with just 4 ingredients, so I know exactly what's going into it. ❤️

Every harvest may look a little different, but each one is a blessing. 🤎

Some days at Heatons Acres look a little different. ❤️
We're working this morning, and Rocky has decided his job is to make sure I don't get too much work done. 😂🐾
Honestly, every workday is better with a furry coworker.

🍅 One of the best parts of canning salsa is enjoying a fresh bowl before the rest goes into jars.
There's just something about fresh tomatoes, peppers, onions, and herbs straight from the garden that can't be beat.
We canned the rest for the pantry, but we definitely couldn't resist enjoying some while it was fresh! 🌿❤️
Are you a chips-and-salsa person, or do you eat it another way?

🌼 Sometimes the best part of walking through the garden is spotting a little orange face peeking out from the wildflowers.
This has become one of Finnegans favorite places to spend the day, and honestly, I can't think of a prettier spot. 🤎🐈
It's the little moments like this that make homestead life so special.
Does anyone else's cat have a favorite spot in the yard? 🌿
