The New Hampshire Shark Buoy data for 2023 has been released by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. Rye has 4 Buoys and Hampton has 1 buoy. The buoys will pick up transmissions from Great White sharks that have been tagged by the AWSC. These buoys are not real time and need to be hauled out to extract the data from them. 3 of our Rye Buoys picked up Great Whites in 2023. The largest shark was Punk (11 feet) and there were no small sharks.😉 The smallest size for the sharks was 9 feet. Peg, Guinevere, Pete, and Reese are sharks that pinged at Rye and Hampton locations. Foss Beach is the only buoy that did not record any sharks, however Foss Beach has the only 2022 detection and the biggest shark at 12 feet. You can look at the information at the following link: https://shiny.atlanticwhiteshark.org/logbook/
I always believe that shark information needs to be shared with people. While the probability of a shark attack has been low, I believe it is increasing as the seal population continues to grow. Sharks that once fed on larger prey offshore have now shifted to close to shore predation of seals as their primary food source. These sharks that are being tagged on Cape Cod are making the trip to the NH seacoast and look to be making more frequent trips as their population grows. Stay tuned for more information.

Through the ongoing efforts of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) and the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF), acoustic detection data for tagged white sharks off the coast of Massachusetts and a catalog of over 700 tagged and untagged individual Northwest Atlantic white sharks...

SeaBee Honey hosted a well-attended event on Tuesday, April 23rd, at the Rye Congregational Church. The focus? Concerns from the fishing community regarding the potential impact of offshore wind power on the Gulf of Maine's fisheries and marine mammals. The New England Fishermen's Stewardship Association (NEFSA) , led by their CEO Jerry Leeman ,provided an excellent presentation outlining these concerns. After the presentation, the NEFSA team fielded questions from the audience.

Thank you to the NEFSA team, Rye Congregational Church, Mr. Cavanaugh, Bob the Videographer , Kerri Ann, and everyone that attended this great presentation.

Looking ahead, we'll be working with offshore wind proponents to organize a similar event, hopefully with other sponsors. This is a complex issue with a significant impact on our community, so ensuring all sides are heard is crucial.

Mark Your Calendars: Fishing Off Our Coast 2!
Following up on our popular "Fishing Off Our Coast" event last fall as part of the RYE 400, we're excited to present Fishing Off Our Coast 2: Offshore Wind Power & The Fishing Community.

Join us on Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:00 PM at the Rye Congregational Church for an informative discussion. Representatives from the New England Fishermen's Stewardship Association (NEFSA) will address the concerns surrounding offshore wind power in the Gulf of Maine, including potential impacts on fishing grounds and the environment.

This is a critical opportunity to gain insights into the future of our coastline and the fishing industry. We encourage everyone to attend!

This worker bee is currently performing the duties
of a forager. She was born last fall and has spent the winter working with her sisters to generate heat to keep the queen warm and safe. She spent today flying around foraging for pollen and nectar for the hive. I was able to get a photo of her on my windshield where she was taking a break.
