Since a few people have asked 🩷 No, I probably won’t have peonies for sale this year. In the flower farming industry, we like to let new peony plants work on their roots for 3 years before harvesting the flowers. It takes a lot of energy for the plant to bloom, so most buds are disbudded as soon as they appear. I will allow a peony plant to bloom a flower or two so I can make sure I have the correct variety and then I cut the bloom off without many leaves. More leaves = more energy for the plant to gather through photosynthesis. I planted my peonies spring of 2024, so hopefully next year I can start harvesting blooms for bouquets!
