I got a nice visit with the cows today. They got lots of brushing, treats and a good dose of fly spray. Excited for the evacuation to be lifted (whenever that may be) and we all get to go home!! Very thankful we still have a home to go home to as many do not... Counting our blessings!

It's raining!!!! Hopefully it's more helpful than harmful as we also have a flash flood warning over the burn area now. Incident command mentioned that the outflow winds from these storms coming over can cause more issues than the rain that it drops but 🙏🙏🙏 that is doing some good!

Aspen Acres Fire 2026 as seen from Pueblo West where we are evacuated to. You can see the stretches of smoke that are going up the east side of the greenhorn mountain range. This is in pretty rough terrain and the incident command team is trying to figure out how to contain it without letting the entire mountain burn. They are putting a bulldozer lines down the entire perimeter on the south and west side of the mountain just in case they can't stop it. The wind today is terrible up north and pushing west which is why we can see the mountain. Our house is still safe at the moment. They did mention that one of the main concerns for Rye is the southernmost part of the fire that's going up Greenhorn mountain has potential to turn around and hit rye from the West. I believe this will keep us from returning home for quite some time.

We have seen a large increase in wildlife since we have been evacuated. A lot of animals are fleeing from the fire. A bear managed to get into the trash yesterday. Not sure if this is the same bear coming back or a different bear but at least our electric fence is still working....

Finally had a chance to go visit the cows! They are being very well cared for by some friends about an hour East of the fire. With everything else going on its very nice to know I don't have to worry about the cows having what they need. We spent some time brushing and loving on them and gave them a bunch of treats. They are pretty spoiled little things!

The fire continues to grow and more evacuations have been announced throughout the day. Hundreds of structures have already been lost. We pray for everyone affected by this awful fire. We are so incredibly thankful for our friends who stopped everything they were doing to rush to our aid, help us pack and evacuate, get the animals to safety, and offered a safe place for us to land while we wait this out. The cattle are being very well cared for (far away from the fire) by some amazing people. I miss them but it's also a huge relief with everything else going on that I know they are being pampered. The chickens and turkeys are safe right down the street from where we are staying with friends (and we even added a few bunnies who needed a safe place to land while their family evacuated). Everyone has been so generous and we can't thank you all enough. This might be a long road and we are just at the beginning but being part of such an amazing community has really lightened my heart. Thank you. ♥️

Chickens and turkeys are safe! Heidi, the barn cat, is set up in a quiet bedroom at a friend's house. Though she is not impressed she is out of harms way, so we are happy!

Update: we were able to return and get all of our chickens, turkeys and our little barn cat Heidi safely evacuated. We also have shelter lined up for them first thing in the morning. Right now they are a very safe and sound tucked into our stock trailer for the night and we are headed back to our friend's house safe and sound in Pueblo West. Thank you all for the love and concern and offers to help.

All right guys. We have evacuated. The cows are safe. Our dogs are safe. Our house cats are safe. We had to leave our chickens, turkeys and our barn cat behind. If we're able to go back in is there anyone local that can house 70 chickens and five turkeys? Please private message me. I do not have the capacity to check comments on here
