Devyn did a fantastic job setting up the farm stand this morning during his therapy session! He learned a lot about each step & that wagons can be ornery going downhill lol.

Everything is coming together! 💐
Devyn’s therapist is on board to help us guide Devyn with this new adventure, so during our therapy session tomorrow we’ll be loading the Self-Serve Farm Stand for our 🎉GRAND OPENING🎉
We’ll start out with Friday-Sunday’s 11am-6pm & edit or expand days as we go.
We’ll have a few grab bags of our leftover specialty tulip bulbs (these are not your run-of-the-mill store bought, these are peony & double varieties)… toss them in some pots on the porch & then in Fall plant them out or bring them in over winter. We’ll have gorgeous willow stems, spring bouquets, flower seeds collected from our field, dried florals & some baby houseplants that Devyn helped to propagate.

🎶 I Saw the Sign 🎶
(does anyone else wake up to a theme song in their head?)

We repurposed an old chalkboard for our farm stand sign! Yes the splatter was accidentally on purpose? Why would you ask that lol? Details around how that happened are “blurry”… (literally got in my eye 😅) Someone may have been shaking the chalk marker, the cap came off & splatter landed all over me & Kitchen, aaand the sign. We’ll call it a “happy accident” to honor the great Bob Ross.

This seems like a good time to reintroduce ourselves. Hi! We’re the De Lauter’s. We have quite a life story to share with you. A retired military & special needs family, we finally made it home to our little peace of Narnia after 20yrs served with 2 tours to Iraq, and four kids later.

We’re 4th generation farmers. Business name explained… The De Lauter’s have French roots. Hence the use of “De la” meaning “from the” and “Farmille” is a play on the French word family (famille) that we adapted to fit our unique lifestyle, the farmily. Our farmily serves up a plate full of welcome with a dash of quirk, & a hearty side-arm jab. We’re a satirical bunch that unapologetically baby talks our animals & the garden. We promise to keep you guessing 😄 Due to recalculations along our journey for our son with complex autism, we developed a small scale “care farm” for him, for us, for our community.
De la Farmille is “a small piece of a broader movement which utilizes farming as a therapeutic intervention to improve health, social, & vocational outcomes for vulnerable populations.”

“PIVOT… PIVOT….. PIVOT”

Does anyone else remember that scene from Friends when they are moving a sofa through a tight stairway? Just me? 😄

So, markets are tough. They fall through or don’t fit, sometimes they are too saturated. That has been the name of the game. So why not try something on our home turf? We’d been kicking the idea of a farm stand around since the beginning but just didn’t get around to it. This year the mountain helped us confirm that choice when her angry winds came through & blew our cow shelter out of the ground 😅 Got it. Point taken. Cow shelter turned farm stand.

It’s been a whirlwind of a start up! In the span of a week the farm stand is built, the tulip, daffodil & lenten rose buds are starting to crack with color, & we have lots of fun things to offer you… so why not have a Grand Opening this Easter weekend!! We’re just that crazy lol.

Over the next few days we’ll post pictures of what will be in the self-serve farm stand for the weekend & details about how it will operate.

We’re excited to give this a shot & hope you will enjoy it too 🌄💐

Devyn & Farmille Update
We’re back from a much needed hiatus & planning! We made many calculated choices in response to where life has led us. The biggest one, releasing the dream bubble to develop a full scale Care Farm. Reality & Capacity had to break the news & I finally got the message. So, what now? We are STILL a Care Farm… for Devyn. For our family. For our land. For our community.
Another concern: finding consistent markets that work within our capabilities. We’ve had to pivot A LOT. We will continue at Sanders Market, partner with other flower farmers to provide wholesale flowers, offer a few Subscriptions (CSA), and a NEW Farm Stand for those who’d like the weekend opportunity to take a beautifully peaceful mountain drive!
Devyn update: he has been receiving IVIG treatments every month for 1.5yrs now. At the two year mark his medical team will reassess to see if he will need to continue. He is making steady progress. I have never met someone with the obstacles he faces have such a zest & love for life. He amazes me everyday.
Our daughter narrowly avoided needing IVIG treatments also & is thankfully improving well. Devyn’s twin brother has been battling severe motion sickness & underwent extensive testing to find he needed vestibular therapy & has systemic reactions to nuts & wheat. Did you know you can have stomach migraines?? Me either lol.
Farmille Flowers update: we successfully restructured the field to heal from the Vole & Flood Disaster of ‘25, the tulips & daffodils are coming up handsomely!! We are also forcing tulips via crates in our basement for Mother’s Day! We will continue to concentrate on focal flowers since we are not able to grow at full capacity still. We also decided to start fruits & veggies back up & will offer these at our Farm Stand. True to our eclectic nature, everything we offer will be creatively unique & always organically regenerative.

2025

According to the Chinese calendar this is the year of the snake. A time for shedding what isn’t good to hold onto & making space for growth. I can’t think of a more accurate description. It has been a year of losses personally & professionally. However, looking at those losses from a perspective of revelation it offers a lens for opportunity. A single question to guide us. Who & what brings value to each of our lives, our family & the community without stretching us beyond our sacred limits? No longer do we live under the pressure of more. Do more. Accomplish more. Hustle more. No. For us it’s not going to ever be a goal of go large & make a name, it will be… who & what allows us to be more present in the process?
That is what true success means to us. Unshackled. Unsubscribed. Free & alive.

Devyn received an encouraging report on Monday from his medical team. He continues to improve, but will need to have monthly IVIG treatments through the 2yr mark. That isn’t obviously what we hoped for, but we are grateful for the clarity & guidance. He is becoming more & more of his usual goofy, sweet self as time goes on & that is cause for celebration! 2yrs since his crisis & we are unthankfully thankful for what we have learned through it all.

Farmille planning has been on standby until we learned the news for Devyn’s care so we could realistically goal out. That is TBD. With the tremendous revenue loss from the vole disaster, we are investing more in rebuilding our infrastructure & regenerative plan & less on high dollar focal flowers. Our informational website & newsletter will be a high priority for this season, so be on the lookout for when that drops. We will continue to offer fresh & dried florals at Sanders, through wholesale, subscriptions & direct requests with a goal of adding an experimental roadside stand. We are looking forward to concentrating energy into intensive soil health. This is where my soul finds rest. The land has been my restoration & returning that care is what compels me.

To 2026, what shenanigans will be… will be. We’re alive friends, so let’s live.
