I get a lot of questions on line breeding. The benefit of line breeding is in producing more predictable offspring. It is perfectly acceptable to line breed both for show stock and for meat production. Here are a couple of charts to help you keep track of your breeders’ genetic percentages.

Bringing in new genetics can be risky. You can introduce unwanted traits that are hidden and you’ll sacrifice a few breeding cycles deciding if the new genetics are working for you. If you have weaknesses in type or fur in your lines, it’s probably necessary to bring in new genetics. Then when you acquire the strong “parts” in the kits from the new genetics that correct those weaknesses, you can return to line breeding to retain those parts in your conformation.

I have a blue and a broken blue doe who need a new 🏠 These pictures are all the same two rabbits but the lighting is different on opposite sides of the cage. I can pedigree and tattoo the broken blue, but the blue lost her ear marking after cohousing with other blue does and is offered as a non-pedigree meat breeder or 4-H project. 3 1/3 months old.
